Hey folks. Looks like I've finally found a decent fan forum for the Miami Dolphins. I am a Detroit Lions fan and frequent a bunch of fan forums for the Lions and have noticed a bunch of interested Miami fans lately. I figured I'd stop by and choot the chit with you guys for awhile.

First, in order to clear anything up before it gets assumed, I am a huge fan of the game of football. I've just been cursed with the God forsaken, die hard loyalty that keeps me pulling for the sad sack Lions. In other words, I'm not here to talk trash or cause a stir. Just looking to discuss football. I have a buddy who is a Dolphins fan and maybe I can learn a few things and have something to talk with him about.

Anyway.....Joey Harrington.

Personally, I think you guys got a steal of a deal. I won't get too far into my thoughts on Joey before there's something to respond to, but I will say this. If Culpepper doesn't get healthy soon enough, I would not be the least bit surprised to see him on the trading block next year. In a nutshell, Joey (nor any other QB that had the misfortune of passing through Detroit the last several years) never stood a chance with the Lions. I'm not saying that I think Culpepper sucks (though I do believe he's extremely over-rated), but if Joey gets ample time to play for a team that is truly dedicated to winning and has some decent talent on the roster and a quality coach (which I think Saban has done an awesome job thus far), he may surprise you all.

If he does, I dunno what you're out for the Culpepper deal, but you got a steal in Harrington.

What are your thoughts???

I think we got a good deal with Harrington. Maybe the switch of teams can help him propel himself into a good QB. God knows if Daunte will survive with his freak knee injury, so Joey is a good QB to have there to clear the what ifs... At least better than Cleo or Vick. Hopefully Daunte will be okay and Joey will make a good back up. But other than that, welcome to the boards man.

Ahhh yes, the love from a Lion fan to the Vikes...it's easy to see why you think Daunte is overrated. I won't bother getting into a pissing contest with you over Daunte's ability's, but I'm willing to reserve my opinion on Joey till he's had a shot with our O. I think If Joey is as good as you believe it does nothing but raise the level of play from our QB's because Daunte thinks the starting job is his and I agree. Daunte's not about to give up the job. However if Joey beats him in camp I'm all for the best QB under center. We have improved at the QB position in this one off season by leaps and bounds. It should be an interesting camp.

Welcome! Where did you get th photo of my Mother in law attacking me at T-bird day? Impressive. I digress..

Harrington has talent. In a better system with good coaching , he will become a good NFL QB.

Daunte is a Freak. Dude is 6'4"+ 250+ Could run (before his knee blew out) 4.6 and throw the ball as far as anyone wanted. I'm not knocking Harrington , but the only QB that comes close to Daunte is "Cut that Meat" Manning.

i think no, and again no. culpepper is our guy, and maybe well trade harrington back to you for a 1st round pick

First off, wecome to the board! Second, I hope you are right and Joey is a fighter and can compete at a starter type level. Not saying I want him as our starter, but I would gladly have two starting caliber QBs on our team any season! We haven't had that problem for a long time.

Welcome to the Boards. I think Joey will make a good backup here. It's so nice to finally depth at QB.

Go Dolphins

Welcome, man. Keep your chin up - hopefully Marinelli and Martz can turn your ship around. Lord only knows you guys have been waiting long enough

I always thought that Harrington would thrive if he were put into a more friendly situation. Maybe he will succeed with a better (different) system around him.

As for Culpepper, I understand why many people (NFC North fans especially) believe he is overrated. Personally, I think we bought a great player at a low price. I like to compare his situation to John Elways. Elway threw only 10 TD's and 17 Int's in a horrendous 1992 season. The fans began to boo him, and the Broncos even drafted Tommy Maddox in Round One to be his eventual replacement. Although the Broncos Front Office had good reason to trade him, they resisted the temptation and kept him on the team. Elway eventually overcame his mid-career complex and led his team to two Super Bowls.

Daunte is in the same boat, only his team decided to part ways with their franchise QB. Culpeppers biggest challenge in Miami (along with rehabbing his knee) will be to play steady, consistent football week-in and week-out. I truly believe Nick Saban can get the best out him. If he stays healthy, he will be a bigtime steal for the Dolphins.

Anyway, just my opinion. Stick around. Hope to hear your insights and thoughts.

First, let me reiterate my previous statement.....

I'm not here to talk trash or cause a stir.

Hope that helps.

Second, as I also said in my last post, I'm a fan of the game and have enjoyed watching any of the several teams that have been competitive over the span of time that my Lions were stinking up the league, including NFC Norris rivals. I didn't say I disliked Culpepper. I said my opinion was that he was over-rated. I could be wrong, but I believe those who believe they've found their next Marino will be sorely disappointed.

But yes, I believe your QB stable looks much better than it has in a very long time.

Haha.....I always get comments on that one. The board specs wouldn't allow me to post my better one.

There isn't a worst coach in the league than Mariucci, in my honest opinion. Saban seems to be a very good coach. I'm hoping Marinelli can do what he and Mora Jr. have done and continues the trend of new HC's improving their teams.

I gotta ask, though. Are you saying that Culpepper is a better QB than Peyton Manning??? I respectfully disagree to the emth degree. In fact, I'd say they're pretty much complete opposites. Not that one is great and the other sucks, but compare their positives and their negatives and you'll see very different issues.

Daunte is a physical specimen. However, I believe his size is a hindrance and also was an element involved in his recent knee injury. He's fast for his size, but not fast for a QB. He does have a cannon for an arm and can shake off defenders well, but he's a gunslinger and doesn't always make the best decisions, resulting in his extremely high turnover ratio.

It's been awhile since I've looked in on your roster, but if Chambers is still playing at a high level and your TE (McMichael?) still plays like an additional WR, you guys have better receivers than what Culpepper was left with after Moss' departure.

Still, as many have said, it should be interesting to see how it all pans out. Joey will make the best of his opportunities. I guarantee that. And don't let the media fool you. Daunte is going to need some time to rehab that knee completely. Rush him back and I bet you lose him forever sometime within the season. Big guys like him just can't beat on their joints as a QB and succeed for very long.

I would have to laugh pretty hard if Joey managed to draw a first round pick in a trade, but I guarantee you, it won't be from the Lions. First, as much as I like Matt Millen, he isn't the kind to admit mistakes. Second, I would have to question Joey's intelligence and sanity if he were to go back to Detroit. If I were him, I'd retire first.

I hope you guys get what you want from Culpepper. I'm just telling you what I think of the guy that is supposedly backing him up, but (I think) will be starting come week one.

Welcome!!

Thanks for your kind words on Harrington. It's really good to get some insight on him from Lions fans. I think Daunte will be a hell of a player for us, but it gives me peace of mind knowing that we have a player in Harrington that is now in a system that will help him succeed and has a head coach that knows what he's doing.

I feel for you, man. I really hope you guys can get rid of Matt Millen. I remember seeing last year that Millen banned all signs and banners from being brought into Ford Field (but some pro-Lions ones were let in). Also, wasn't there a movement started by a Detroit radio station to wear a certain color shirt to show your displeasure with the Millen regime? I thought that was cool. As I said, I feel for you. We were stuck with Wannstedt and Spielman down here for WAY too long. It's like seeing a gravely ill family member in the hands of incompetent doctors.

Thanks for your words and post anytime here!

Go Dolphins (and Lions)!

No doubt, but my chin has been up as I find joy in watching any number of competitive teams until my Lions decide to get their heads out of their ..... I'm way past the point in which the Lions dictate my mood on Sundays. You tend to calous up a bit over the years.

Daunte is in the same boat, only his team decided to part ways with their franchise QB. That's the thing. Harrington will benefit just as much from Saban and a fresh start, new system, etc. as Culpepper will. Add in the fact that Harrington is currently healthy and is an extremely durable QB (never missed a game due to injury) and I think the leg up goes to Harrington. At least for now.

If Culpepper can get healthy, he will win some games for you and it will be exciting to watch, but when he single handedly screws up due to his propensity to make silly decisions, it'll be equally frustrating.

Basically, at this point in time, I understand why folks would think Daunte is a better QB than Joey. First, any QB that leaves Detroit carries that stench with him for awhile (if not forever). Second, Daunte has seen greater success by playing for a competitive franchise where Joey has not. However, I believe that the situation in Detroit was so sour that it was impossible for Joey to show more than the glimpses that the sports writers love to mention.

I could be wrong, but I'm kind of a gambler and if I were to put money on which one of those two stand a better chance at making a go of a long and successful career, my money would go on Harrington.

Haha....Yeah, I'm a rare breed. I figured I'd encounter the swarms of Harrington haters that I've dealt with over the years on Lions forums, but I haven't seen one of them yet. Also, I'm a fan of Millen's. I will understand if they don't get something done soon and he gets the boot, but I love what he's attempted to do and you won't find a guy with more fire to win than Millen. Hopefully his third choice in a HC turns out to be better than his first two.

The protest that took place last year was also a disgrace. It was started, to the best of my knowledge, by some folks at a fan forum that I used to help moderate before the site creator allowed his head to get too big and his spine to shrivel.....but I digress. They did a good job advertising and organizing this protest, but a poor job in planning the overall effect.

They called it "The Orange Out." The last home game at Ford Field was to be played against the Bengals. They'd all wear orange in order to (supposedly) show Ford and Millen what it would look like if Lions fans stopped showing up for the games (which, if you know anything about Detroit football, you know that will never happen). Instead, what they did was make it look like the entire stadium was supporting the Bengals and not the Lions and this was further driven home by the fact that players stated that it was a sad example by the fans. Basically, they took it as a jab at them and I don't blame them.

Also, I believe the banning of signs was a lowball move, but it wasn't Millen that pulled the trigger on that one. That was the Fords. Personally, I'll defend Millen to the best of my ability, but I understand why some don't like him. The Lions haven't been worse under any other watch and that's a shame.
