So we all know the basics: set the edge, gang tackle, be disciplined. but anyone want to venture how we scheme to shut down johnson and young? We really dont have anyone who matches up well with johnson at all, especially coming out of the flat. i woulda felt better with JT like 4-5 years ago. Our lbs really are too sluggish to keep him bottled up.

I see us using bell and wilson as a spy on him, keeping smith and davis more isolated. I do have hope though, sparano is usually pretty good at scheming something up.

For one, I think we will rotate Clemons in a lot, because of his great speed. Obviously, he doesn't have enough speed to chase down Johnson, no one does really, but he would save more touchdowns than Wilson would, I believe.

3-3-5 mostly, lots of blitzing. make vince beat you with his arm and get more speed on the field to try and contain johnson. crowder and ayodele shouldnt see the field they are slow and useless vs young and johnson.

I think we man up on the outside and go single high with Gibril. Gibril has actually been very solid when given the chance to freelance a little bit and make a play using instinct. I like YB spying Young....i like that idea a lot. However i believe we will use a wide rang of players to spy Young. I think JT, Wake, and maybe soliai will get a shot at spying him. I know you think im crazy to say Soliai but he has been used to cover backs out of the backfield and he is actually very swift and quick for a huge guy. I dont think Soliai will spy every play obviously but he may can one or two chances during the course of the game.

I also think we will blitz Nate Jones a lot of the corner. We will alos combo blitz YB and Gibril at times. I like Sean on Britt and Vont on Washigton. We will def stack the box with 8 on rushing downs......I expect to see some cover two also. And i really want to see more Torbor on the blitz and on passing situations. I think Culver will see ample time as a spy to Young also. And i expect Clemons to garner some playing time also. We will need our d to come up huge on Sun and if i was Paul P this would be my game plan.

so then what do we do when they decide to go power formation and run the ball down our throat? Stick to 5 DB's on the field and have our two best run stoppers sit the bench? The dude asked how do we stop Tenn...not how do we get Johnson the rushing record before the end of the first half.

the way to beat tenn make vince young or kerry collins who ever is playing beat us with there arm that is the was we stop tenn

Send Gibril to lay the wood. and keep the nickelback or Clemons over the top.

whatever happened to the 4-2-5 we used so well against Carolina? Wake, Starks, Merling and Porter did a really good job of pressuring Delhomme.

at LB i would prefer Torbor and Bell. face it, we're going to need speed on defense. Culver and Wilson at safety, Davis, Smith and Jones at CB.

Our 3-4 Defense should be more then adequate to stop this team. We just have to mix up the blitzes. . . I would like to see more corner blitzes, especially if they start vince young.

It's a risky blitz but the steelers make use of it all the time. Since neither QB for Tennessee is a strong passer, I'm willing to take that risk.

Yeah but our corners are cover corners and Gibril Wilson thus far has demonstrated a lack of hustle to the ball as it's thrown. I wouldn't trust it.

EVERY LB in the league looks "sluggish" relative to Johnson.
That is such a ridiculous statement. He runs a sub 4.3.
Only a DB would have a chance.
You defend guys like that by a swarming defense and beating the blocks in front of you. Its simple football 101.

Well the corner blitz is really a 1-2 time thing. Once from each side really, then its no longer viable. Regardless of our corners being "cover" corners, players like woodson and asomugha do it quite effectively. Not that they possess any kind of super speed, its more of a surprise tactic. If it's called on the right down, even our slowest players can make use of it.

It's a situational call, nothing more.
