I want to preface this post with my thought process last Sunday morning before kickoff against the Lions. I was excited, in fact very excited, I had not had so much hope i was about to watch the Dolphins win a game in a long time. Os had a full week of practice with the starters and Wake and McCain were coming back, we were at home, against a team with a losing record, it was perfect. I really thought we were gonna beat the Lions, honestly I thought we would win convincingly. Sadly I was wrong.... very wrong.

With the direction were heading, mainly due to injuries and shotty playcalling, losing this Thursday is a very real possibility. To compound the injuries, were playing the Texans, who for some unknown reason usually have our number. If we are 4-4 at the midway mark, my initial thought process starts to look to the future for optimism.

Let's face it, this team has no chance at winning a Superbowl imo, absolutely no chance. The aforementioned injuries and Gases playcalling, added to one of the league's worst offensive lines and a defense who is bipolar on game days, it makes me take a step back and look at our team from a different perspective.

Then I read the Dereck Carr thread which is ridiculous, but it made me wonder if the Raiders are actually doing something right. Then they trade Cooper to the Cowboys for a 1st rounder and now I get it, Gruden is tanking for the rest of the season and would love to trade Carr for a 1st rounder, he already has three 1st rounders in the 2019 draft, why not dump Carr off to the Dolphins too. The fact the Raiders got a 1st for Cooper is amazing to me, I would be beside myself If we traded our 1st rounder for Cooper, he just not worth it and is liable to drop 3 passes a game, imo hes a liability, the Cowboys got robbed.

So back to the Dolphins, if we lose Thursday and are 4-4 with half of our starters still injured, should we really try to keep winning? It's obvious the Raiders have actively started to lose intentionally, would it be in our best long term intrest to follow suit? I hate losing but I hate going 8-8 more than i do going 4-12 honestly, call me a bad fan, but we go 8-8 or somewhere close repeatedly and nothing ever changes. Every year, for 20 plus years it's been the same struggle to get close to 8-8 and in doing so we ruin our draft capital and still dont have anything to celebrate.

It has me wondering if I'd rather be 4-4 with all the issues were facing or be 1-6 like the Raiders and have FIVE 1st round picks in the next 2 drafts. I'd probably take the bad record and the picks.

I love to see the Dolphins win games but where we are now, without a franchise QB and needs all over the roster, I think it might be time to focus on the long term future.

I know I'm opening the flood gates with this post, but if were better in 3 years from now because we had a bad 2018 season, I'd happily take it.

Gase didn't just sign a 10 year 100 million dollar deal like Gruden, so he has no wiggle room to be tanking, neither does this front office. They have about a season and a half to right the ship or I believe they will all be unemployed.

I know what you are saying and it makes sense but the team WILL NEVER shut it down at .500 and unfortunately our rooting interests will have no effect on the outcome of the games. I love it when fans call out fans for rooting for the team to win when they want the higher draft pick, what difference does it make? We are already down to our backup QB, have no WR's and a very weak offensive line, it's realistic we end up with a high draft pick regardless of our rooting interests. Also, if it's QB we are after the 3 best in the league were acquired by a 6th round pick, free agency and the 22nd overall pick. Another top QB was acquired at #11, which as we learned last year is 6-10, and the top young QB was acquired via trade up. In this past draft 3 of the 4 top QB's were acquired via trade up. My point is history bares out that no matter how popular losing all of the games is with fans the best QB;s were acquired by being aggressive at the draft as opposed to going 1-15 or 2-14.

Also, I don't even want a QB in the 19 draft. Get a stop gap, take our lumps and go hard for a QB in 2020.

Good post and I see your point, many of those QBs who got traded up for go to teams that are already or very close to being top tier teams in the league, which means they have a good front office and have talent around them. Even great qb prospects can get ruined quickly behind bad offensive lines and bad play callers.

We need a new GM so bad.

I think we lose to the Texans and only win maybe one or two more games. I'm all in on the fire sale. Get as many picks for 2020 as we can.

All this. Gase went all in on Tannehill and is currently living with the consequences. Not that I think any coach can be successful with Tbum handling anything associated with the team. That guy is cancer. Everything he touches turns to ****. The fact he's been around so long while doing nothing positive should tell you all you need to know about Ross.

The team is rotten from the top down. The ownership, the management, the coaching, the players ... nothing is good enough to be successful. It all needs to be purged.

Would not be surprised if Joe Philbin pushed the Packers to trade for Carr

Can't say I watch the Texans a lot but I did watch the Cowboys v Texans game. The Texans line was able to stuff Zeke and pressure Prescott.

The Cowboys line isn't great, but still is good overall, even with Frederick out.
Cowboys couldn't take advantage of their corners. Not sure the Dolphins can either now with the injuries hitting the WR depth chart.

Could get ugly for the offensive line

This was a 2 win team coming into the year. Why is everyone so upset about it..

2 win teams don't start off 3-0 lol. Had it not been for the Tunsil injury, we could certainly be 5-2 and that's without our most important FA acquisition being replaced by Ted Larsen. Luckily for Miami though they get to play an overrated QB this weak who is averaging a pick a game, I think even this mediocre defense can take advantage of that, we'll see. It's not gonna be like Stafford again who is way better than Watson despite popular opinion.

Wow, I can't believe Oakland got a first rounder for Cooper. I figured he'd bring around a third rounder. Carr has to be the next to go.

At the start of this season, I felt the main thing was to see tremendous progress from the Miami offense. That the offense is again a disappointment is frustrating. The injury to Sitton was huge, but Gase is supposedly an offensive guru so the team should be able to overcome some injuries. Another frustration is how few touches Drake is getting.

The team is about where it should be talent-wise, but I'm on the fence regarding Gase, cleaning house and starting over. That said, I'd never want to see my team tank. If you value someone in the draft, you can always trade up. You never want to build a losing mentality. Just my two cents.

The Raiders have all these picks but there is one huge elephant in the room regarding the Raiders long term prospects of winning the AFC Central consistently, that can be summed up in one word..... Mahomes
