Thoughts on the fins season and Nick Saban

When I really started liking Nik Saban was when I saw the assistants he was hiring. Scott Linehan- IMO is one of the top several coordinators in the league. Minnesota finished last year 4th in total offense 1st the year before. From Minnesota he also brought one of the best wr coaches around in Charlie Baggett. He has done a very good job of developing players like Randy Moss, Nate Burleson and others. The other really great hire was of course Hudson Houck who I think everyone knows is a great O-line coach. I also really liked the GM hire. In his first year as GM in NO he was executive of the year after he replaced over half the team in on year and got them much, much better. I don’t remember the record but it was greatly improved. I truly do think that as long as we can keep this group together we will be able to build into one of the really good teams in this league. And by really good I mean phily pats good.

On the downside, we play in the AFC East and we have this for a schedule

Home Denver Broncos

At New York Jets

Home Carolina Panthers

By

At Buffalo Bills

At Tampa Bay Bucs

Home Kansas City Chiefs

At the poor NO Saints

Home Atlanta Falcons

Home New England Patriots

At Cleveland Browns

At Oakland Raiders

Home Buffalo Bills

At San Diego Chargers

Home New York Jets

Home Tennessee Titans

At New England Patriots

I was reading Sports Illustrated the other day and they have us a THE MOST DIFFICULT SCHUDLE IN THE LEAGUE!!!??? How in the heck did that happen???? With that in mind I really think if we win 7 or 8 games Saban should be coach of the year. Looking at those teams I only have us on par roster wise with Tampa and Cleveland. I also think we beat the Saint for lack of coaching and probable Tennessee. The other 3 or 4 wins would have to come against teams that roster and depth wise we really should not beat. With the Coaching we have I could see us getting some or those. Our other big problems are depth and learning new systems. The only 2 positions that I think we have quality depth at are wr and rb. At those 2 we really do have VERY good depth and it is possible we may trade some but I doubt it. The problem is that the wr are much hampered by the qb whoever it turns out to be and the rbs are slowed by an o line that I don’t think will hit a stride until around mid season. And remember before the season is over there will probably be more injuries. All in all we just don’t have the depth to really play at the level of a very good football team. I hope people don’t take this as a gloom and doom prediction because I actually think we are a much, much better team than last year and as I said above I think we have really great coaches and that will translate into long term success. All this being said I think we will win 6 or 7 games and before you flame me please tell me of those 16 teams who we are better than. Also I would love to hear record predictions and what you think it should take for Saban to be considered for coach of the year.. Hope I didn’t make to many mistakes….:)
