Three expected to be offered extensions

I know. Philbin hasn't even been head coach for a single game, and people act like they know he is the next Don Shula. We had a pretty decent defense the last couple of years, but now we have a new DC...we may actually get worse on defense. And then we have our new OC, that basically got fired from A&M because he couldn't get it done...and they act like we are going to all of a sudden have a powerhouse offense....

It's really mind-boggling.

The mind-boggling part is your need to be negative about everything associated with this team. Sherman couldnt get it done huh? At Teaxas Tech, I would agree. How did he do in the NFL with offenses? What were his offenses like? I understand that we dont have Farve, but he is a competent offense coach, no needto diminish that.

So, you even say that you agree he couldn't get it done a Texax Tech (I assume you mean Texas A&M), and we don't have Favre. So, who did Sherman have when he "couldn't get it done" at A&M? Oh....Tannehill...

The guy had some good offenses at GB, but he also had Favre and a better team than we have now.

Look, I will give Sherman a chance before I start attacking him...but I'm also not going just assume like everyone else that we are going to have some great offense because of him!

offering them entry level negotiation contracts and them actually signing for them are too different things...i sure hope irelands not dumb enough to get into a bad contract with brian hartline and sean smith...

starks 2-3 years max...

I want all of our starters signed until such time as we have better replacements and good depth. I have no interest in dumping starters until you have someone that can do the job better. Hartline, Bush, Smith, Fasano, Starks, Long are all starters. If you've got better players at those positions and adequate depth behind them then OK, cut them loose but until then, don't weaken the team. Obviously you have to assign a market value to each player and you have to operate within the confines of the salary camp but you don't cut starters on a hope and a prayer for the unknown.

Quick question...who around here is saying stuff like that? You're way off there.

from the list of fa we have next year

i want to lock up long ,starks and bush.
smith can walk along with hartline unless they have break out years.
fasano is a big ? not sure what to do with him unless one of our young te step up

People are absolutely acting like that. I mean, look at all these difference posts in this thread alone!

Again, I see no one here acting like Philbin is the next Shula. Cautious optimism. Hell, anything is better than Sparano as HC, though.

HArtline - Smith need too have a good season this year - if not cya -
Starks - didnt pile up th sacks like he did the 1st season in Miami -but still a solid player on the DL

Long - is the face of the dolphins, he will resign, hopefully the rest of the line steps up -
Bush had good season, need too play 14 outta 16 games and 1500 yards or better in rushing an recieving to retire in Miami ,with back too back 2-3rd picks in drafts dont see him her long
Moore will not be here next past this year- Tannehill will play midway this season.
would be great if moore does get resigned 3 yr deal, plays great great then ireland trades moore for a 2nd rounder like miami traded for every other yr back in the early 2000's

Smart moves. Invest in the young players, it is foolish to do otherwise. You resign good players before you have to and the new contract talks become a problem. Some Dolphin fans are not big on Hartline or Smith but they need to wise up. They are still some of the best that we have at their positions.

IMO, J Long makes too much, I do not see this ending well.

R Bush for sure makes too much and is near the end of a running back's NFL lifespan.

I'm sure as far as Matt Moore, they are waiting to see what this season shows which is smart.

Hartline is a 4th round pick that has played like a second round pick....Starks was giving a good amount of money to come here and he at the very least played up to what they thought they would get from him, and the truth is they want him more then they wanted Langford because can get after the QB a more then Langford and since were playing a 4 man dline most of the game now he means more to us then a guy that gets very lil pass rush.

Smith is a very good cover corner who sometimes has brain farts and has HOW MANY INT'S, ........only three in three years.......then you add in he's soft, so some fan's won't want him back. I'd like to see him come back but word is he's going to want craZy money, so he could be gone.

I believe Long should be a priority. We are just now getting the line set to be solid and it would be a disaster to have to replace him.

If anyone overprices themselves then Id drop them or try to trade them.

But otherwise, you simply do no get rid of talent. You ADD to the talent of the team not simply try to replace it. Releasing Hartline, Smith, Moore etc if they do nt have a "great season" is so shortsighted. Next year, instead of adding to our team, we will have to replace the good young players we allowed to leave.

You find talent, you get the talent, you coach up the talent, you keep the talent and you add to the talent.

The problem with him is that he is one of the last HUGE ROOKIE SALARY draft picks. And I've never known a player to ask for less money then he has been making. If he is expecting $13-14 million a season, he has two years left as a Dolphin.
