The goal for Miami isn't just finding the right head coach, but the right coach and quarterback combination. All you have to do is look at the playoffs to see the importance of the position with Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Big Ben, Phillip Rivers and some other top quarterbacks competing for a title. The worst qb's in the postseason tournament are probably Lamar Jackson and Mitch Trubisky due to lack of experience. Neither has yet reached their peak either with Jackson still having a long way to go as a passer.

So what's the plan for Miami? I think there are really three scenarios.

1. Wait Until Next Year
This might be hard on the fan base, but might be the right way to go. With the current roster and a likely stopgap quarterback, the Dolphins are clearly in the running for the top overall pick in 2020 when the draft could be loaded at the quarterback position. If Miami takes this approach, the team could follow the talent in the draft which happens to be on the defensive line, a huge weakness for the Dolphins. Miami can work to improve both the defensive and offensive lines, maybe get a mid-round quarterback and wait until 2020 to draft a potential franchise qb.

2. All in on QB in 2019
Right now this is a very clouded quarterback class. That could change if Haskins declares, but he may not. Haskins strikes me as the #1 overall pick if he does declare. Not saying he's better than Nick Bosa, but he's a quarterback. Miami would then have to jump other quarterback hungry teams like the New York Giants, Denver and Jacksonville. That's if the front office is convinced on Haskins. Haskins would likely drop Lock to the #2 quarterback in the draft, with Jones possibly #3 and Grier maybe #4. Not sure any of those guys solve the issue for Miami as they all have questions. Murray is the wildcard, but I keep hearing he might be closer to 5-9 than 5-10. Love his talent, though. If the front office is convinced on Haskins, who has some Big Ben in his game, it might take an established young talent like Laremy Tunsil and picks to get it done. I could see Arizona drooling to get a talent like Tunsil to protect Josh Rosen.

3. Trade for a Veteran
Nick Foles could be available, or maybe even Carson Wentz if the Eagles end up with a long playoff run. Matt Stafford is another veteran who might be available. Is there a current backup that is an under the radar talent with star ability? I don't know. I would personally prefer to draft and develop a quarterback.

Curtain number one seems like the best prize. I'm not sold on Haskins or any of the others for that matter and we're supposed to be on building mode. You can't build by trading away picks to move up. No sense on spending on free agent QB's as they cost too much. Lots of talent on defense in this draft so go defense and worry about the big time QB in 2020

I have a very strong preference for option #1, Wait Until Next Year.

There are some fantastic QB's in next year's draft, headlined by Trevor Lawrence (probably the #1 overall pick next year) and my favorite Jake Fromm, plus several other mobile QB's with upside like Tua and a slew of other good prospects out there like Justin Herbert. The 2020 QB draft stands to be the best QB draft in a while, and if we're going to suck, 2019 is the year to suck.

This year's QB crop is barren.

I choose option 1.

We need to straighten out the O-line to give our shiney new QB the chance to succeed. Not only do we need to pass protect better, a consistant running game is a young QBs best friend.

I would really rather not bring in a Bridgewater, or any other high $ FA. I don't see the point.

I think the large majority of fin fans would pick #1, we've been losing so long I don't think anyone would mind losing for the opportunity at a franchise QB.I certainly wouldn't mind so I pick option #1.

Talent rich drafts tend to produce a lot of positional trades. A chance to yield some quantity late round picks for marginal moves up and down. Talent void drafts to produce quality trades that yield a kings ransom for a few select teams.

Play each draft to its strengths.

2019
1. Draft heavy on D and trade back when possible to pick up extra late round picks.
2. Be on the lookout for a developmental QB prospect and OL that fall into your lap.
3. Cut/trade RT and get anything you can for him. Absorb the cap hit and move on.
4. Let Fales and Falk battle it out for the starting position. Develop the D and run game. Do NOT pay a FA QB. To do what? Come in and win some meaningless games for $15M? NO THANKS.
5. This year is NOT about W's and L's. It is about purging your cap of bad money and refocusing on the future.

2020
1. Align any necessary resources to go get your QB.
2. Spend remaining draft resources on OL and OL depth.

I would only draft a QB in 2019 IF THE GUY you are sold on for the next decade is available. I would NOT trade up to get him. 2019 is a mulligan, take advantage by not wasting draft picks. Build the D and align for 2020. Also, find out what you have in Fales and Falk. Future Backup?

We need to get away from the splashy moves. We need to assemble draft resources and spend them wisely on building in the trenches and on D. We shouldn't even worry about offensive skill positions until 2021. We have enough young talent at RB, TE and WR to develop and carry us until then. Let us not forgot, we have to find a QB before we worry about his weapons. Use what we have.

Posters here have a wide variety of opinions covering the entire spectrum, but I think you are right. Most agree, option 1 is the way to go.

I can see why some are anxious to get rolling, and draft a QB this year.

I can't see the rationale for bringing in a top tier FA though.

We need oline for any qb to succeed, not just depth, starters.
Winner Winner.

Do you think some of the issues were coaching, as opposed to talent?

I know we lack, at a minimum, two starters on the interior, but perhaps there is some depth there.

There's no way I trade Tunsil. He'll be needed to protect that shiny new quarterback. You don't trade the best and most important OL player, especially when he is as young as he is. Need him to grow with the QB. We get a QB without a left tackle, he'll end up like RT.

I said I would sign Buttfumble for 2019 to START, while taking our much needed lumps. Hopefully seeing growth from rookies and 2nd year players.

It's all about 2020 and I believe enough of the fanbase understands and are willing to see it through.

I think both. I think coaching definitely had a neg effect but talent needs to get younger and better. Has to be a priority.

Possible bonus for #1 is if Tannehill plays 16 games and looks like his decent self, value could go up a round or so. But certainly not a reason to go #1, again just possible bonus.
