There aren't many starting spots on the Dolphins' roster that don't have a tenant, even if it's a temporary one. But coach Tony Sparano admits there's a flashing "vacancy" sign on the starting receiver spot opposite Ted Ginn Jr. Auditions are being held daily among Greg Camarillo, Davone Bess and Brian Hartline.

Sparano said all three will play against New Orleans on Thursday "until we see what we need to see."

He also hinted that the player who prevails will be the wideout who produces the most big plays.

"Teddy has got the long speed and all those things, so you think that's where your home run is. But we have to get more chunks [of yards] on offense. I'm looking for a guy that can gobble up yards out there opposite [Ginn]," Sparano said. "We need a guy who can make some bigger plays on the other side."

Camarillo, who started 11 games last season, and Hartline, the fourth-round pick who's started the past two exhibitions, contributed big plays against the Bucs. Hartline caught a 54-yard pass from Chad Pennington. Camarillo turned a short out route from Chad Henne into a 52-yard gain by slipping would-be tacklers.

Sparano pointed out that Camarillo's blocking was strong against the Buccaneers, and his route running crisper. The two receivers who remain will likely compete to become the team's slot receiver.

Should be a good competition. If you look at what Camarillo had accomplished last year before his injury, then you would have to say he has the edge. His injury does still lingers a bit, but I would have to give him the edge. The guy just knows how to get open and will instantly make Ginn a better player as well. Camarillo can win one on one coverage just on route running ability alone. He was Pennington's favorite target before he got hurt, so that helps also.

Hartline looks good, but still needs a little more time to develop. Bess had a couple of drops that were very uncharacteristic of him, but he is still best suited for the slot.

Hartline looked much better than Cam. The language TS uses about eating up chunks of yards clearly points to Hartline.

So what's the story with Turner?

i think they always looked at him as being 'situational' certainly in the early stages of his development... A posession 'red zone' guy...

Though he lit it up in practice I have to think the drops he has had in games will keep them in that original mindset. JMO.

I'd be happy with any three of those guys starting TBH. They're our top 4 receivers and even though Hartline might be the most talented of the 4 (yes even more than Bess because of size/speed) he's also a rookie and might be better for him to take a more situation role at first.

I would have said Bess would be the man, but if Hartline "flashes" again, I think he has a real chance. After plenty of frustration last season at Ohio State, Hartline seems to be thriving at Miami.

hartline is more of a YAC guy then Cam. Cam is the catch and goes down after a yard falling forward guy.
