This is not a gloom and doom post. I really like the direction the team is headed despite some rocky games in the early going this year. That said, I think a three-year plan to become competitive is more realistic and I'm willing to be patient. There are a lot of holes that need to be fixed and the young talent base just isn't quite there yet.

First off, it's clear that Gus Ferrotte is not the qb to guide this team long-term. For the past five plus years, Miami's quarterbacks have pretty consistently been a couple of plays short per game. The team needs to find a qb that can make those couple of extra plays. It could mean the difference in about four games a year. I trust Saban and Mueller will find their man, but it's possible that player won't be starting next year.

Which brings me to another point. Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas and Sam Madison will likely be on their last legs when this team is ready to do some serious damage. I wonder if Saban might be willing to trade one or more of these guys while they still have value -- much like he did with Surtain.

I know it's difficult to take the losses, especially because Miami could have won a couple of the games they let slip by. But I'm pleased with what I've seen of Ronnie Brown and the young players are getting needed experience. We just need to enjoy the journey and be a bit patient. It will come together.

I'm just a fan. and i have to admit watching this years team lose doesn't hurt as bad as watching last years team lose.

this year we're fighting. Fighting for merely mediocrity, but fighting nonetheless. Sabans building this teams spirit, thats the part that you can't break.

I've been thinking that for a while and especially after the last few games seeing that we are obviously not yet on the verge of going the distance. i was afraid to make a post on it, but dealing Taylor or Zach could get us some good players or picks. i think especially JT would be a value that otherteams would see as true value to them and give something big up for him. It might be a smart move, but it sure would hurt. I hope Saban finds a way to get us going and include those 2 because they have been the Dolphins D and even the team the last few years. I just don't know if I'm ready to move on without them, but who knows if Saban will?

i dont care... I WOULD never trade those guys... you might as well sell the SOUL of the dolphins franchise...

You think that Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor have horrible, possibily damaging attitudes? Why...?

I would have no problem if Saban traded those two guys if it would help the Dolphins in the future. The Dolphins need to get younger on defense anyways. Crowder can step in and play MLB and Saban can maybe draft a young stud at DE in the next draft.

i love them both as players, but in the interviews i've seen, JT seems like a whiner and thomas kinda slumps down, very negative.

while they seem to shrug it off, i cant help but wonder if their dispositions rub off on other players and effect their performance.

this opinion comes in part from the fact that the fins d, even in its prime never seemed to make a game-changing play in the big spot. the above could be a reason why, imo

True I think, but I doubt it is a bad attitude that caused that not to happen. JT and Zach have big hearts and full throttle motors which helps other players IMO. They made a lot of stops and our D got some turnovers in big games, but the offense never turned those oppurtunities and field position into wins. That probably explains why we remember few big plays when needed. I'd understand trading them because they have great value that will only drop as they age, but if we are talking attitude only, I say they are the kind of players you want to keep.

Kinda have to agree. JT, while always busting his arse and playing hard, seems to lack that killer instinct at times. Zach does get "poor me" look on his face quite a bit. Maybe it's just from carrying this franchise for a while wearing these guys down. They have seen the field an awful lot during their careers and have put together some great efforts in losses due this team never really having a balance. It's probably worn them down mentally.

I wanna see Zach and Jason retire as Dolphins, sure they're worth something elsewhere, but I think they are worth something in Miami too.

I would say I absolutely 100% disagree with you on everything you have said here.

JT LACKS WHAT???What JT are you watching? And as for the poor me comment,do you know what that man has been through in his life???I doubt he wants sympathy from anyone because the fins arent winning every day he wakes up,I'm sure he's just happy he "woke UP"
