Throw away your mock draft- it's gonna be a CRAZY first round

As to Johnny Football, i think he's going to be a Bobby Nobody in the NFL. The instinct to ad-lib doesnt translate to the NFL.

Kliff Kingsbury was on the Dan Le Batard radio show not too long ago. Dan asked Kliff to give him some good Manziel stories. Kliff giggled and told Dan he didnt want to say anything before the draft but he'd definitely be back to the show after the draft to tell some of the stories. What Kliff did say, the biggest thing with Manziel was trying to keep track of what the hell he was running on the field. "Which play was that?" Kliff admits that he managed Manziel by trying to stay out of his way as much as possible and let Johnny do what he does best, improvise.

Improvisation doesnt work in the NFL. We're not talking kids who may never see it out of training camp. We're talking elite pros who will eat you up and spit you back out for the mere pleasure of devouring you again. Ask RG3. The pocket is where its at folks. Russel Willson buys time with his feet, eyes always down field. Buying time and improvising are nowhere near the same thing.

EDIT: Kingsbury was an OC at A&M (and a part time double for Ryan Gosling).

Read yesterday that our 19th pick is valued just more than SF's two 2's & two 3's and their 5. But we might still make that trade because it is a buyer's market this year. Thoughts? I think I would do this unless an unexpected stud falls to 19.

That's too far to trade out if both those 2s are late 2nd rounders...we would be watching a bunch of guys just roll off right in front of us...I wouldn't do it if those picks are near 60

Could always use the ammo to move back up.. 3 2's 3 3's a 4 and 2 5's

Just want to add this.. Very likely that Cody Latimer goes in the first round.

In regards to RB's, maybe we'll see them in the second round, which is conventional wisdom, but I think teams are fooling people, and they see how important it is to run the ball and how the passing game is getting better defended every year and the yards are getting tougher. I think a RB will go in the first round, that's my prediction.

Here's a tweet alluding to that with the Patriots, who loved what Blount did for them, but need someone a little better. Better is in the draft:

. @MoveTheSticks: Don't be surprised if @Patriots take RB in 1st round. Maybe Carlos Hyde.

Here's an article saying that Atlanta brought Hyde and Hill into their facility. Things were not working with Matt Ryan at the helm, even with very good pass catchers on their team. Running the ball seems like a good solution for them:

Atlanta picks No. 6 in the first round, but the team won't be taking a running back at that spot. The Falcons pick fifth in the second round (37th overall) and definitely could be interested in Hill or Hyde then; the potential also exists for Atlanta to trade back into the first round to get their man, especially if the Falcons think someone is interested enough late in the round to grab one of the backs.

agreed, especially those last few picks in the 1st where you can get your guy for 5yrs instead of just 4.

Thomas Dmitroff would be breaking his own rules. He hasn't drafted a player has been suspended or arrested since he got the GM job in 2008. Hill and Hyde have been both suspended and arrested. Although, the seat is warming up in Atlanta for him and Mike Smith. But, Atlanta was the most pass happy team in the league last year. If I had to guess I would say this is a smokescreen, but maybe he goes against his morals because another season like last year and he'll be out of a job. I could definitely see New England taking Hyde though.

To follow up my post about Cody Latimer.. he's not getting past San Francisco at #30

I saw on Twitter Mark Dominick (former Bucs GM) said Ja'wuan James is a lock to go in round 1. Has these 5 - Robinson/Matthews/Lewan/Martin/James, all going rnd 1. Interesting as he's someone the media really hasn't included in round 1 talk.

Interesting nugget in the end of this Miami Herald article http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/04/26/4082782/miami-dolphins-have-their-eyes.html

Sources say Miami has first-round grades on just five tackles: Martin, Lewan, Jake Matthews (Texas A&M), Greg Robinson (Auburn) and Ja’Wuan James (Tennessee).

Exact same 5 Mark Dominik has.

You're reaching for James at #19.. I like him a lot but not that much.. have him as a high 2 but would not take him at 19. Thanks for the post though!

Ya I'd expect they'd grab him if they trade down. Doubt they have him high enough to be the pick at 19

I'm thinking Martin at #19 and a trade up for James at the end of the first.. I predicted Miami would take Martin at #19 and James at #50 but now it's looking like they move up for James

LT-Albert LG-Martin C-Pouncey RG-Smith RT-James

yeah I could live with that...

Just wanted to add how I absolutely hate how the NFL pushed back the draft 2 weeks.. in the old format the draft would be tonight (last Thursday of April) but instead we have to here more from Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, Mayock etc. for another 2 weeks. The thing is, they know they have everyone by the balls cus they still know people will tune in.. Just more revenue $$$$ for the NFL

Yup, this is awful. Having it on Mother's Day Weekend, too.

futurescout, I feel like you need a reason to not like Manziel. Before, you contested that his style of play wouldn't work in the NFL and that he was a 3rd RD QB and that Garappolo is the MUCH better QB prospect. Now that you've come around on the player, you're saying he's too big a risk because of off-field concerns. I told you before that you'd look back on Manziel and search for what you missed.

On your "final" top 32, you have Mosley as the #4 overall prospect, and you have a top 32 grade on Skov. I'm not trying to rag on you, but your opinions are hard to keep up with. On that same big board, you have Watkins #1 after two weeks earlier labeling him the 3rd best WR in the class. These are wild swings - given the date of the analysis (1/4 and 1/16) and that they came after the NFL season.

Anyway, Carr's only prayer is landing in a situation where he can sit and learn, and even then, I'd say the odds are against him. QB's who struggle on 3rd down and struggle with pressure and struggle with deep ball accuracy . . . well, you're talking about an uphill climb. He has a strong arm, a quick release, and he's a good athlete, but his instincts are terrible.
