If(and I know it's a big if) the only thing preventing the Tuna from trading with Dallas is the trade value chart then I say throw it out the window!

I have never before seen a situation where so many fans/experts are undecided on a first round pick. The reason being that not one of the candidates seem to be a franchise type player. Given that whoever it is, will be guaranteed massive money it becomes even more of a gamble, one that Jerry Jones is more prone to than Parcells.

Now Jones isn't going to give up more than the two 1sts and 2nd this year. Not gonna happen IMHO. Thats only 1732pts on the chart for a 3000pt pick. What it also could mean is e.g. Branden Albert, Quentin Groves and Tracy Porter instead of just Jake Long(?) That trio is just one of many possibilities but I would take those three in a heartbeat over either Long.

Another possibility is if Baltimore really wanted Ryan and thought the Falcons were as well, an offer of their 1st and 2nd is only 1900pts but again I'd have to at least entertain the notion. The bottom line, we lose value for our pick based on the chart but possibly gain by saving some money and gaining more picks. The bull's eye on my forehead awaits your darts!

The trade value chart is very over rated IMO. I think any trades of this years number one pick will have to include first rounders in next years draft.

I wouldnt count out Parcells making one of those trades closer to the draft, but its way way too early to make any trades with the pick. By holding the first pick right now we hold all the cards. Closer to the draft when all the hype builds up there will be much more value for the pick and Parcells knows that. Parcells knows what he is doing and i have complete faith in him to get us the best possible combo of players from the draft possible.

I think the value chart is overrated by the fans and not by any front offices and general managers. Plus the value chart fans are using is a few years old so if anything with the increased salary on the top picks the first pick has declined a bit in value since that value chart came up a few years ago. No1 making actual decisions lives and dies by the value chart its all based on witch players are there and how badly you want them, or how badly you want to move out of your spot, its all relative.

I will go along with your post regarding the 1st overall pick and the Dolphins not demanding the trade value for that 1st pick for this reason. That chart was designed quite awhile ago when the 1st round salaries were not so big so things have changed and the 1st round selections should not get the same trade value they have always had. In the same sense the Dolphins should be able to trade back up in the draft and give away less also. That trade value chart will apply more closely in the lower rounds than the higher rounds due to salary considerations. So that all being said is it more prudent to keep your picks in the 1st and 2nd rounds and say trade your picks in the the 3rd through the 5th rounds to accumulate more picks. The more I think about it I think so. Jimmy Johnson I beleive would attack this keeping his picks in the first round and possibly 2nd unless a killer deal was offered but more open to trading down through the 3rd thru 5th rounds and picking up gobs more picks in the current draft and or grabbing an extra pick this year plus the others team pick in the current round next year.

I personally don't like trading with Dallas because we would be moving so far down, but trading the #1 with Baltimore for the #8, their 2nd, and a 1st next year and I would take it.

i would entertain a first for there first and a 2nd and a 4th and 2009 2nd pick...some thing in that ballpark

Well here is the first dart LOL.
The dolphins need more picks but not necessarily in this years draft, the dolphins was bad because of a domino effect that start with no ball control of the offense which led to the defense being on the field to long, so are they trying to fix up the offensive line or the defensive line? I was leaning toward fixining up the defense, but you know as I thought about it this team will be a running team so they can eat up the clock, therefore there will be no trade down and the fins should pick the player who will give them immediate value in protecting the young QB whomever it will be........so the pick should be jake long. They are not going to allow a young Qb the opportunity to throw th football all over the field this year.
