If the Dolphins finish tied for first this is how it will be determined within the Division:

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION[

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs

  1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
  4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  5. Strength of victory.
  6. Strength of schedule.
  7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  9. Best net points in common games.
  10. Best net points in all games.
  11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  12. Coin toss

For rule #1.. when does the point differential come in to play?

Miami now owns the tie-breaker with both the Jets and the Bills outright. I know the Bills don't really matter but before today's game the tie-breaker with the Bills was not 100%.

If the Bills somehow upset the Patriots, which hey anything is possible since the Patriots are 1-5 on the road and 0-2 on the road within the division, Miami has the tie-breaker.

More then likely though, it would come down to common opponents which is what we won on last year. Currently the Pats hold the advantage(5-3 to 4-4).

Ultimately, if Miami can take care of their own business and win out the playoffs are a near certainly. Maybe not a division title, but definitely a wildcard spot.

Let's just hope it doesn't come down to a coin toss. Seems like we always lose on coin toss.

Right now we need help for a wildcard, even if we win out.

I'm a little worried about Baltimore. They have only 5 losses so far, and their remaining schedule includes both Detroit and Oakland.

Packers win tomorrow would be huge for our playoff aspirations. We'd be almost guaranteed a wildcard spot if we win out. That said, winning out if going to be tough in of itself - four really really tough games. Is Jax for real?

I really wish Denver would tank, but looks like they've got it back together.

Pull for the Packers tomorrow.

Oh I will... but it's an NFC opponent, so a loss would still leave the Ravens with the same number of AFC losses as Miami (not helping us in that tiebreak).

If we keep winning, we might end up needing Pittsburgh to beat Baltimore in a few weeks.

If Dolphins win out,

we need either a NE loss to BUF, JAC, or HOU for the division.

or two BAL losses (any two) or one BAL loss to an AFC team (OAK, PIT) for the wildcard.

In other words, Dolphins could win out and still miss the playoffs if NE wins out or only loses to CAR, AND the Ravens lose only once more to a NFC team.

Actually, it may only take one Baltimore loss if we win out. We are currently 4-4 in the conference and the Ravens are 6-4. If we win out, we finish the season 8-4 in the conference. If the Ravens lose to one AFC team, the Dolphins get the tiebreaker.

I SO edited my post before you responded. :D

I will soon be a very big bills fan for a week, but we gotta take care of business and win out. the patriots have a pretty easy schedule down the stretch and they arent going to lose more than 1. all of the teams we play are in the wild card so we almost control our own destiny. if we win out, we should at least get the wild card. I guess baltimore has to lose.

I said it before the game today and I will say it again...............

Just ****ing chill on any type of playoff talk till we can get to 8-6. We play two tough road games. We know we pretty much need to win the rest of our games to get in now. So if we win these next two, were going to come home with 2 games left(both at home) and facing a win and youre in scenerio.

So just let it go until we get to 8-6. If we get there, let the playoff scenerios fly.
