Tiger Woods wins British Open

Big day for the Americans in Europe. Landis wins the Tour de France and Tiger wins the British Open. I watched the British the whole morning and I mean what a display from Tiger, he turned it on we he needed to . . I mean I like Di Marco also and would not have been upset if he won either, but Tiger was simply amazing. It is tuff for Tiger to leave his driver in the bag, but like the announcers were saying, if he were to use more irons off the tee like he did this week, he would be unbeatable. Now we know u can be beat any week in golf, but I do think leading the field in fairways hit like he did this week is the main reason he won his 3rd British Open today.

WTG Tiger, now off to Medina for PGA Championship where he will definetly be using that driver, lets see if he can finish the year strong before the Ryder Cup.

he only used his driver once
^not 100% positive

Thats correct, I believe he used it once on the first day at 17, and thats it.

They said on ABC that they would be right back for the trophy presentation...then they switched it to This Old House (a home improvement show). :tantrum: Tiger was crying his eyes out when he won. I am more of a Phil fan but I was very happy as I am sure Tiger wanted to win one for his father.

I have to say I was in tears when I was watching Tiger crying and sharing his emotions with his caddie, David Duval, and his wife. Can you imagine the first tournament you win without your father, the biggest person in your golf life, there to greet you and hug you? I certainly can't. It just all came out. He couldn't let go of his caddie when he was crying.

Congrats Tiger Woods! The best golfer in the world.

hes finally back on track
Absolutely. I never doubted that it would take very long. You just had to figure that the US Open miss would royally piss Tiger off. It was great to see the best playing up to his abilities. I think we're about to see something really special from Tiger over the next year or so. I believe the British Open will prove to be a turning point for him.

Tiger Woods has done this 11 times now, and still amazes me. This guy is incredible; he's the Michael Jordan, the Tom Brady, the well, baseball has alot of cheaters lol, OF GOLF.

A lot of people ask me why do I watch golf, and I always reply "To watch Tiger Woods". Some even say that golf isn't competitive, which to me is just pure ignorance, that sport is VERY competitive if you understand the game and it's rules. Hell, Di Marco and Ernie Els were right there knocking on Tiger's door throughout the tournament, but Tiger stayed calm and cool, and was able to keep the lead.

Just amazing, I am really happy for this guy. Just 7 more majors to go to tie with Jack! GO TIGER!!!

Those courses suit his current game so perfectly. He's still over swinging with the driver and blowing it into the right rough. But the British are too classy and beholden to history to alter every course by marching the tees forty yards back, and narrowing the fairways to the width of a tennis court.

The Open courses are rarely tricked up but Hoylake had a lot of its bunkers repositioned to be in the 280 - 320 yd range.

Woods played excellent but my player of the tournament was Di Marco. Amazing display on the final day only beaten Tiger playing as complete tactical round of golf as I have ever seen.

Roll on next year , Carnoustie will be an awesome test of golf. If you though 1999 was difficult wait till you see it this time. Just hope we get another Scottish winner this time :D

Ryder Cup in 2 months time :D Think the US will win this one though far too mcuh strength in depth but you can never write of Europe

Europe tends to have a huge advantage in team play. I mean c'mon, how the hell can u pair up Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson for a match. Hal sutton had no clue how to pair 2 golfers and their strengths to make a great pair. I Know Lehman will hopefully do a better job. USA can kick azz in the individual matches on Sunday, they just gotta keep even during the teammates phase.

Tiger Woods is the only athlete in the world that can even come close to Michael Jordan status. What he did yesterday was very reminiscent of Michael's title against the Sonics in 96. After returning in 95 Jordan was good but not the Michael Jordan we've all come to know and was promptly sent home in the playoffs that year. In 96 he returns better then ever and the Bulls dominate on their way to another championship. Well Tiger Woods comes back at the last major, embarrases himself by not making the cut (and no one can blame him after what he was going through), then comes to the British and leads 3 out of 4 rounds and basically dominated the course. Why does this matter you ask, because both had lost their fathers (the guides of their lives and careers) and both celebrated their fathers lives through victory. I know Jordan's title was a few years after his father passed but who can forget him hugging the ball at mid court after the Bulls won on father's day and then being seen in the lockeroom over an hour after the game still laying on the lockeroom floor hugging the ball and crying. I think there is something to be said about Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, both say they were great because they had great fathers and I think that shows how important it is for a boy to have a good father. I know it sparks a whole other issue but it just goes to show what being a good, encouraging father can do for a chilld. This is longer then it should be but to sum it up, Tiger Woods is the only person in any sport who had taken his sport to a whole other level and can compare to Jordan (the greatest of all time in any sport IMO) in every aspect, talent, marketability, charm, ect. I for one am a huge Tiger fan as I was a Jordan fan and I don't care if anyone thinks I'm a front runner because when you see greatness like this, it's hard not to be a fan!
