I hope people get a little better appreciation for the tight end position after watching Hard Knocks and what is required out of a well rounded TE in the NFL.

With Brown blocking like a school girl and Clay and Egnew scratching their head while reading the playbook, quietly Fasano goes about his business and does what he does best, he plays tight end in the NFL.

The underappreciation for Fasano and his rounded abilities at TE are understandable because he doesn't put up the huge numbers in the passing game like some of the seem stretchers around the league but than again Fasano can actually block an NFL caliber linebacker or tackle in the running game. He is also as sure handed as they come at the position making the most last season out of little (consider that he stayed in to block on passing downs 20% of the time last season). Oh and did I say he only dropped one pass last season, one.

Clay and Egnew will learn, they will come about but in the intern Fasano will quietly do what he does best, play TE for the Miami Dolphins.

i remember back in 2008 fasano came up big in some games especially against the jets. philbin should put clay and fasano on the same field like gronkowski and hernandez.

Egnew looks real bad for a 3rd rd pick so far. Glad Sherman chewed him out. Egnew looked like he was gonna cry. Dude better toughen up or he won't last long.

Thank God for Anthony Fasano. The rest of them are dog sh-t right now. Can't wait to see his numbers this year.

Don't read into Sherman ripping Egnew and Clay too much. Mind tricks in my opinion to get more out of them. Might have worked with Clay because he was outstanding on Friday night.

Well said NY. Fasano may not impress you with Pro Bowl like numbers, but he works his ass off and and is willing to do the dirty work no problems. I admire that. He's also go pretty decent hands and will give you the occasional TD!

Exactly Hayden this was the proverbial shot across the bow for Egnew, now he needs to get his ass in grear and play. Clay will be fine, he is a baller and just needs to transition the rest of the way to TE, after all the roll of a FB is not nearly the same as TE and Clay is learning both positions.

The thing about Fasano is his targets last season where very low, Moore straited to utilize him later in the season and his stats reflected that but what people fail to realize is that the pass blocking was so horrendous last season that Fasano stayed in on 20% of the passing downs to block and in that time allowed only 2 pressures in 103 blocks. That's gettin' er done folks.

I'm not sure what the point of even bringing Les Brown into camp was. He couldn't block Stephen Hawking. I could just hear the trash talking now "That's right, bitch, I own you. I'm gonna go kill your QB and celebrate by f'ing your girlfriend later" (spoken with computer voice). Seeing Les Brown scorching hot gf makes it impossible to feel bad for him. I was laughing as he got pummeled during drills. Enjoy your next day job because it won't be NFL player.

Sorry, not jumping on this wagon. Fasano is simply average. Just because he is the best on this team means nothing. Naanee is our #1 WR right now and it's not because her tears the NFL up. Someone posted the other day that Fasano and I quote 'Is a Beast". Come on, please put things in perspective. Is Fasano garbage, no not by a long shot. Is he a beast, very far from that. Does he do his work, get things done and go pretty much un-noticed. Yeap, pretty much the definiation of average.

Quick talking sense. That is not allowed when discussing Fasano ..... the discussion always deviates into childishly hater-esque "he sucks" or because he hasn't put up Antonio Gates #'s he's somehow worthless. He makes the most of his "opportunities" and is one helluva a blocker. You increase his opportunities, it's only natural to assume his production increases. I would really like to get Clay going so we can have the 1-2 punch in the intermediate part of the field like we had with Fasano-Martin.

4th in the league in YPC for TE's is not "average" ..... 25 first downs in 32 receptions isn't either. Which is why it bares repeating that with more opportunity, things could open up for the guy. He's a guy with tremendous blocking skills and above average receiving ones.

Look at Fasanos Career. 92 games played in 6 years. 164 total receptions. That's less than 2 per game. 19TDs or about 1 every 5 games. He played pretty much every game of each season. That is completly average no matter how you slice it. I'll admit I'm not a Fasano fan. But I also won't say he's crap. To me he is the definition of average. He will never be a game changer. And in today's NFL you need that at TE. I think he is a solid number 2.

You're lump summing the statistics and not looking at them through the correct lense, as in his "targets" ..... when you do so, he clearly is an effective/efficient TE. The guy can't throw to himself. He can't make the coaching staff keep him in passing plays more instead of blocking 1/5th of the time.

Did any of you catch that nasty one handed grab he had on hard knocks last night, it was pretty quick at the end of one the segments. The guy's got skills and is most certainly one the more under rated players on the team. The young guys could really learn from a pro like him.

Henne handicapped Fasano the same way he handicapped everyone else. I would say that the Fasano you had with Pennington is closer to the real Fasano.
