Tight End and Miami

You're lump summing the statistics and not looking at them through the correct lense, as in his "targets" ..... when you do so, he clearly is an effective/efficient TE. The guy can't throw to himself. He can't make the coaching staff keep him in passing plays more instead of blocking 1/5th of the time.

I'm lump summing him?? I am looking at his entire career. Come on. He gets open in a seem or is there on a check down less than twice a game and all the sudden he is the most underrated player...over 6 years...You are supporting your own arguement by extrapolating statics. It deosn't work that way. I'm supporting my agruement utilizing his 6 years of actual results.

Says the guy marginalizing someone who gets a first down on almost 80% of his receptions and a 14 YPC. His total yardage and TD's could indeed go up with more opportunity. This is fact. Keyword "could".

Then I guess it is also a FACT that he COULD grow wings out his azz and fly into the endzone on every play.

That's all you have for me? That weak sarcastic remark?

Sorry bro. Your arguement was so weak I had to lower my level quite a bit so we could see each other. Go back and read your last statement. Here I'll quote you. "His total yardage and TD's could indeed go up with more opportunity. That is a FACT." Why is that a fact according to you, because you used the word "could". Persuasive man, very persuasive.

I hope people get a little better appreciation for the tight end position after watching Hard Knocks and what is required out of a well rounded TE in the NFL.

With Brown blocking like a school girl and Clay and Egnew scratching their head while reading the playbook, quietly Fasano goes about his business and does what he does best, he plays tight end in the NFL.

The underappreciation for Fasano and his rounded abilities at TE are understandable because he doesn't put up the huge numbers in the passing game like some of the seem stretchers around the league but than again Fasano can actually block an NFL caliber linebacker or tackle in the running game. He is also as sure handed as they come at the position making the most last season out of little (consider that he stayed in to block on passing downs 20% of the time last season). Oh and did I say he only dropped one pass last season, one.

Clay and Egnew will learn, they will come about but in the intern Fasano will quietly do what he does best, play TE for the Miami Dolphins.

A very good post

No human being has ever grown wings out of his ass. Fact.

Football players have seen production increase with additional opportunities. Fact.

It's pointless to even try to get it through [Removed by Mod]. He thinks that a guy like Fasano (with his catch percentage) wouldn't increase his stats if he were to get more opportunities.

I think tight end will be very key to our offense this season. Clay is looking very good and I feel he will be a weapon. Let Fasano and Clay work in some two tight end sets. Egnew better wake up or he'll see alot of the bench this year. I like this coaching staff and we may just surprise some people and end up in the playoffs.

Fasano was fifth in the league in YPC among TE's. That's well above average. As others have stated, he hasn't had nearly as many balls thrown his way the last couple years as all the elite TE's in the league. Let's see how he does in a TE friendly offense when he's no longer on the field with one of the biggest black holes in the league (Marshall) constantly whining to have the ball thrown to him. I think we will be pretty happy with him this year.

average te's get single covered all over the field...fasanos an average pass receiving weapon...teams aren't gameplanning to stop him like they do the legit te's...that said come on ireland and sherman you tellin me you couldn't look at clays blocking last year and egnews in college and know that these guys are never gonna win in line??? your shocked that a missouri te from that soft offense and soft conference doesn't play a physical game in the trenches??? yeesh...

flex clay and egnew out as much as you can and stop trying to make these kids be something they're not...you have fasano and to a lesser extent mastrud to give you primary in line duties...

Quick talking sense. That is not allowed when discussing Fasano ..... the discussion always deviates into childishly hater-esque "he sucks" or because he hasn't put up Antonio Gates #'s he's somehow worthless. He makes the most of his "opportunities" and is one helluva a blocker. You increase his opportunities, it's only natural to assume his production increases. I would really like to get Clay going so we can have the 1-2 punch in the intermediate part of the field like we had with Fasano-Martin.

In order to put up Gates numbers you need to have a QB. lol. Never mind that Brady makes anyone but Chad Johnson look like a pro bowl receiver, imagine what might happen if Miami actually finds a QB in Tannehill.

If the light clicks in Clay's head (he looked much better in the game than practice) we will have a great 1,2 punch with Fasano and Clay. This notion that Fasano will only be average is garbage because if you look at him as a whole he is already above average as a rounded TE.

Usually when Fasano does catch the ball it results in 1) a first down 2) decent positive yardage or 3) 1&2 plus a TD. Not to mention the man stayed into to block 20% of the passing downs last season and only allowed 2 QB pressures and oh by the way dropped only 1 count it 1 pass which I believe puts his drop total for the past three seasons at somewhere around 4 or 5 balls out of 102 receptions which is a catch percentage of 95%. He covered up a piss poor right side of the line which and helped run block Reggie Bush to his best season as a pro.

Did anyone else notice Fasano running endzone routes on Hard Knocks and did anyone notice when he pulled down a one handed snag over his shoulder, it was rather impressive to be honest.

I actually don't give two ****s about the people who hate the man, anyone who has played TE or been involved with the position knows the guy is rock solid.

I love when people use phrases like have seen and could then follow it with that word fact and feel they have actually made a point. Please ignore 6 years of actual stats and let just say he is not average but indeed a beast. Oh wait I forgot...fact.

Sorry, not jumping on this wagon. Fasano is simply average. Just because he is the best on this team means nothing. Naanee is our #1 WR right now and it's not because her tears the NFL up. Someone posted the other day that Fasano and I quote 'Is a Beast". Come on, please put things in perspective. Is Fasano garbage, no not by a long shot. Is he a beast, very far from that. Does he do his work, get things done and go pretty much un-noticed. Yeap, pretty much the definiation of average.

Fasano is one of the best blocking tight ends in the entire league. As a pass catcher sure he is average, but if we didn't have him blocking we would notice
