Tillman replaced by Bell at safety

DAVIE — In an effort to address their struggles in the secondary, the Dolphins have demoted starting strong safety Travares Tillman.

Yeremiah Bell is expected to make his first career start Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

"It feels great," Bell said Monday, after getting all the snaps with the first team. "I've been waiting for this for a long time. I'm finally in there. I welcome the challenge and I'm ready to go."

Tillman has started 17 straight games dating to last season. While he ranks third on the team with 41 tackles, Tillman has come under increasing scrutiny for his poor ball skills.

This is great news!

Tillman wasnt the future here anyway, I really liked what I saw of Bell this year. Now lets hope that Allen can beat out Hill for the other job.

all i can say is why did this decision have to wait until the season is basically lost any numb skull could have seen how poor tillman was at playing and dropped him after the preseason and not started in the first place. atleast it is being delt with now

Poor ball skills? did he drop alot of INTs??

he couldnt make a play on the ball if his life depended on it. i never liked him from day one and it all started from palying rush attack on madden 06 and lead to the actual paly in real life.

Mischaracterize much?

Anyway, this is a positive change. I wonder how long it'll be until Jason Allen is ready to go as a starter.

''Will I be nervous? Not really,'' Bell said. ``I've played a lot before. They told me last week I was going to take [repetitions] with the first team and see how it goes, and this week I've been working with the first team again so I'm excited about getting out there.''
Bell will continue to fulfill his responsibilities in the dime package and work at strong safety the rest of the time.
So what kind of player are Miami fans likely to see in their new starting strong safety?
''I'm a dog, man,'' Bell said. ``I get out there and try to be tough and make plays and be in the fight the entire game. I'm a dog.''
And Bell is planning to take a bite out of somebody Sunday.
''Yeah,'' he said. ``Somebody in a Bears uniform.''

Man I love that quote

Tillman not only can't make plays on the ball but he isn't physical at all. Bell should've been the starter since last season!!! Tillman flat out sucks.

I love how everyone on this board thinks they are better talent evaluators than the entire dolphins staff:shakeno: Did it ever dawn on any of you that maybe the coaches don't have as much faith in Y Bell? I like Bell, but his strength is near the line of scrimmage. He's decent in the secondary, better than Tillman, but I guarantee he will get burned too a few times.

Thank God! I really couldn't tolerate seeing Tillman arriving late, missing assignments, not making plays and just stinking it up in general anymore.

Good luck, Yeremiah!!!!!
