Did WQAM say he should start or are you just saying that since he practiced? Either way this is very good news.

Well its also known as a herniation of the disc. the disk actually sticks out and bulges at the nerve root. So it causes intense pain when you move or turn a certain way. Depending on how tight the muscles are in that area can determine how bad the pain is. Unfortunately for tim he plays a position where he has to bend about 85% of the time, so this injury depending on which disc is injured may cause him intense pain all the time. He will either have to play thru and and never be 100% or have surgery and probably be a little closer to 100% but not much. The surgery includes removing the disc and replacing it with bone, so you tend to lose mobility.

Im not a doc, but i am an athletic trainer and have seen many fb and baseball plyers with this injury
I used to work with a spine surgeon. I think that could have also given him a shot, something like a epidual. I believe they call it a nerve block, usually takes between 1 and 3 weeks to take full affect. With that I think he should be able to play around 100% minus some extra soreness the day after.

i hope he does that does so much for our D....that keeps guys off our LB's....free's up DE's to pressure the inexperienced palmer

Hope it was the steriod pack they gave him. I have 3 bads ones and I got the steriod pack. It worked but it also made me mean as **** too.

I'd like to see an angry TimBo Sunday night...

UPDATE on Bowens

http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/9684525.htm

Dolphins DT Bowens practices but remains doubtful for Sunday's game

Dolphins defensive tackle Tim Bowens participated in his first regularseason practice Thursday and has not been ruled out for Sunday night's game at Cincinnati.

However, starting cornerback Patrick Surtain (groin) and backup Reggie Howard (hamstring) both missed at least some of Thursday's 11-on-11 session. If Surtain, who is listed as questionable, and Howard (probable) are unable to play :hmmm:, rookie cornerback Will Poole will likely make his first NFL start.

Bowens, who was plagued by a back injury throughout the preseason, remains listed as doubtful. But his return would provide a boost to a defense that allowed 182 rushing yards in last Saturday's 17-7 loss to Tennessee, including runs of 52 and 26 yards that led to 10 Titans points.

"We need Tim in there," middle linebacker Zach Thomas said. "He clogs the hole and slows down the run."

Asked whether he was holding out hope Bowens would play, Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt said, "I hold out hope for anybody who has not been ruled out. We'll have to see how he does (Friday)."

Jeff Zgonina and Bryan Robinson are expected to split snaps at defensive tackle if Bowens can't play. Robinson, though, admits he is struggling with his conditioning in South Florida's humidity since being signed 10 days ago following his release by Chicago.

If Howard and Suratain are at least participating a little bit in practice they should be able to go Sunday even if it's in limited roles. Groins are tough though the fins will need tyo be careful with Pat.
