Tim Dobbins - LB - Dolphins

Dolphins released ILB Tim Dobbins.

Dobbins collected $3 million in guarantees to act as Channing Crowder insurance last season. Though Pro Football Focus graded Dobbins highly as a reserve run defender, the Dolphins have opted to go younger and cheaper with 2010 fourth-rounder A.J. Edds behind Kevin Burnett and Karlos Dansby.

Dobbins really **** the bed when he got starters minutes last season. Trimming almost 2 million for a guy who will never be more than special teams and a backup is just fine.

Damn...Tony is fighting for his job like a mo-fo! Both Channing and Dobbins were sub par LB's and now they are gone. This shows me that they really might make a QB move. No way Tony will go down in flames with Henne at the helm.

Edds has shown nothing at all for us to make that claim. And Crowder and Dobbins were very different players. When Crowder was out and Dobbins was in, our defense suffered dramatically.

Sparano is definitely trying to upgrade the team with youth. I approve of the cut of Dobbins.
Crowder would be a better back up. If he doesn't sign elsewhere..who knows.

I have to think that this is likely clearing cap space for a further move. Masterson in my opinion is only a camp body at this point. Not saying we're necessarily grabbing another ILB, but I think the key here was to free up the money from Dobbins contract.
