time is right for Boldin trade?

Anquan Boldin | Cardinals | Interested: Lions?, Patriots?, Buccaneers?, Jaguars?, Panthers?, Dolphins?, Chiefs?, Ravens?

WRs possibly on the move

  • Brandon Marshall, Broncos. Marshall's off-field incidents gave way to a solid season -- 101 catches for 1,120 yards and 10 TDs -- but he was deactivated for the final game of the season, and the Denver Post has reported the team will try to trade him in March.
  • Boldin. In a tradition unlike any ... well, actually, a tradition like many others, Boldin seems to hold out every offseason, displeased with his contract. The Cards seem to be finished with the perennial pouting.
  • Antonio Bryant, Braylon Edwards, Terrell Owens and Vincent Jackson -- amongst others -- could all hit free agency.

Almost a month ago, we got a hint on "Sunday NFL Countdown" from NFL Insider Adam Schefter who said "this is the year Anquan Boldin gets traded," and this re-booted all the speculation that had been in long-term storage. During a spot on ESPNEWS a week ago, ESPN's Michael Smith noted that the "price tag is probably lower" for Boldin, with the emergence of Steve Breaston and Early Doucet, coupled with Boldin's age and proneness to injury.
Speaking to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald after the team's wild-card win over the Packers, Boldin appears to have reversed field on his trade demands from past offseasons. Asked whether he would request a trade this time around, Boldin flatly said, "No. I'm going to let it play out." For his part, beat writer Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic writes that "now is the time to trade him," given his expiring contract, and the fact the Cardinals can win without him. So if the Cards can get a good deal -- unlikely, given the lower price tag -- they'll trade him. If not, he'll probably still be in the desert for the final season of his contract.
As for where he could be going if traded, some WR-needy teams that would make sense from a speculative standpoint are the Bucs, Chiefs, Dolphins, Jags, Lions, Patriots, Panthers and Ravens. Could be another fun offseason for WRs.

Key. I would have to say pass. I would rather sign A. Bryant and give up nothing for it.

I don't think it's a matter of time that will make this "right".

More like a matter of money, and even though his stock isn't high, the Cards won't let him go easily IMO.

Idk how much he would be worth to give up.

The right time was last year when all it would've taken was a 2nd rounder and some ST players to grab him. But anytime is the right time to grab a playmaker WR (at the right price).

Not going to give up a 1st rounder for Boldin but I believe now the only thing I'd give up for Boldin is a 3rd and a 6th, use his injury as a bargaining tool to try and get the Cardinals to sell low, maybe it'll work.

Won't happen, but fun to speculate.

The guy is far too injury prone to give up a 1st rounder for him. And then you have to re-work his contract in 2011 if you do trade for him. Nah,not worth it for me.

Not going to happen. If it was going to happen, it would've been last year. As much as I don't like Antonio Bryant, if we are going to obtain a WR via FA/Trade, it'll be through Free agency, and it'll most likely by Bryant.

This time last year Boldin was a God on here, much like the Gerbil. I made the point then given his style a 1st was too much, but tonnes of posters here were willing to give their left arm for the guy.

Pass. I'd rather ask Nolan just how much of the Marshall stuff was his jackass coach and how much of it was Marshall (as regarded by the rest of the Denver coaching staff). Might be some added help in that hire.

Regardless if we trade for Boldin, some other WR, sign a FA, or draft a WR. The problem we have is that no one fears our WR's. Teams don't say, "We have to shut down Ted Ginn" We have to find a WR or WR's that puts the threat of big plays into the minds of defenses we play.

why the hell are the lions always needing a WR they take one in the 1st rnd every year LOL

Gerbil was never god. Lots of us, includeing me, felt he was an upgrade. He wasn't.

Boldin was another guy I was all about.

Another year makes a difference..Much like another year Ronnie spends on the IR.

I could see him traded for a 3rd rounder... I don't know if it will necessarily be to us, though.

I didnt feel Boldin was worth a 1st a year ago, and obviously he isnt now. The only thing that changed is he is older. Hes the same player. Good but not great wr. Always knicked up based on the game he plays. If ppl on this board had their way, we wouldnt be picking 12th in the draft for a guy who will play 12 games a year. i respect Boldin, but many here got carried away with his value last offseason.

time is right for Boldin trade?

Indeed, the time IS right ... if all the "Trade-ologists" chip in a kidney.

That's about the only thing that's going to make these dreamy trades happen!!:chuckle:
