Time to stop the hate for Dallas Thomas

I honestly feel a player has shown who they are 3-4 years in the league. I do not know if it is the scheme Miami is running or what but he is not worthy of a starting OG spot. There is nothing he will do, short of look decent, that will change my mind. He is still the weak link on that offensive line and other teams know it.

No one can judge Dallas on everything you see and hear in preseason. However, it is OK to do it for all other players. :)

It's right to stay cautious about Dallas, but gotta give him all the credit in the world; he's worked his ass off to become a starter and it looks like it's paying off

Exactly this. Thomas looks like a quality starting OG, and he held up well at LT. Could he fall apart in the regular season? Of course. But, it doesn't look like that will happen - based on his play this off season.

The number of good plays Dallas Thomas had at LT is an improvement from his RT play last year. But the bad are still killer to the offense

Hold the phone...

are you telling me that Tannehill stayed clean?

Not possible, I mean I was told that this was basically a death sentence...

Thomas did pretty well in pass protection when Tannehill was in the game. Credit to him.

But I think it was pretty clear that our offense gameplanned around the possibility of disastrous pass protection.

Here's a breakdown of what our OL really did last year in pass protect, including hits and hurries to sacks.

First 9 games with Albert.

Satele- 0 sacks, 4 hits, 6 hurries.

James- 2- 8- 16

Pouncey- 3- 0- 10

Colledge- 5- 2- 4

Dallas- 0- 2- 12

Albert- 3- 1- 5

Smith- 1- 2- 4

Totals- 14 sacks, 19 hits, and 57 hurries. Total pressures 90 or 10 per game. I thought that Benton did one hell of a job with Albert the only proven talent, and 5 new guys in a new O. I thought Tannehill was gonna get killed early and often but, Benton pulled a rabbit out of his hat.

Last 7 games without Albert

Satele- 3 sacks, 8 hits, 9 hurries.

James- 4- 4- 24

Pouncey- 0- 3- 15

Colledge- 2- 3- 5

Dallas- 7- 5- 14

Smith- 1- 1- 1

Fox- 0- 3- 8

Totals- 17 sacks, 27 hits, and 76 hurries. Total pressures- 120 or 17 per game.

I re-post the above to show fact. Dallas did play 3 games each at RG and LG, giving up 0 sacks, 2 hits, and 12 hurries. These games did take place in the regular season, with Buff and Detroit being included. He got no one killed and is now much improved.

Considering Thomas was told by the organization to focus mainly on Guard and he did and elevated his play there, and considering that he is the 3rd option at LT and has spent minimal time practicing there this preseason for him to have 4-5 mistakes is probably par for the course. The organization recognizes his real position at guard which is why he is the 3rd option. No organization the league has better than that talent level as their 3rd option. And for those of you looking for better options after cuts be prepared for disappointment, the whole league is having OLine problems with very few exceptions like Dallas and considering there is a high rate of injuries this preseason the pickings are going to be slim, if any at all.

You'd think we're the only team in the NFL with o-line issues.

As for seeing deep reads more often, Bridgewater can't trust his OL to protect for some deep routes to develop. They're awful.

Yes, @PeteCarroll is frustrated w/ the struggling @Seahawks O-line.

It's going to be funny when next years draft the 1st round is going to be all about linemen both O&D. The league always overcompensates

It seems like this line has a shot to be pretty darn good when albert comes back, considering they have been holding their own without him and then another injury. If the coaches are compensating in the meantime, great, thats what they should be doing with our franchise qb back there, but the offense has been moving either way. It definitely helps that tannehill has better awareness.

Sadly, we draft developmental players and go nuts when they take their lumps while developing. If he was a first round talent, he would likely have gone in the first round instead of the third. And being put into the starting lineup made him the obvious focus of defensive coordinators. I'm not convinced that he's turned the corner just yet, but I'm hopeful. But with that said, it takes time to forge steel and we as fans are notoriously impatient.

At this point I am terrified of losing Dallas Thomas to an injury. I am also terrified of Billy Turner starting at RG.

On that play he failed to create a lane for Miller, insted he blocked the lane by falling into it bc he was once again beaten.

He was awful on that drive. He also allowed tackle for 4 yd loss, and failed to block the lb on the very first play which was a screen to Miller. He and Dougles supposed to block downfield for Miller and let the LB right between them untouched.

If you were drinking shots for every mistake you'd be drunk by the end of first drive. As a fan, it takes brass balls to watch Billy Turner play RG.
