The Wildcat is only effective when....
Ronnie Brown makes the right read on the play. It is designed to help pick-up short yardage gains.
Key Factors on making it work.
* The speed of Ricky Williams...Presnap. Ricky needs to be about 2 yards from Ronnie. The timing is SO IMPORTANT on this factor. It can strike fear and force the LB's to cover home outside.
* The D-Line...if it spreads, stunts or pinches
* If the LB's stay wide...after the snap.
* Guards have to create a hole up the middle every time. Even if they run Ricky wide.
They just need to work on the presnaps reads with Ronnie at little bit more. But by no means do they need to stop running it. By running it every game about 4-5 times, Defenses have to prepare from it and that takes time away from the base package they work on with our offense.
WILDCAT = Better Offense
Keep in mind it is used for short yardage 1st downs mainly. We just got a little bit spoiled by Ronnie making GREAT READS early on. The play works and helps us move the chains.
If Ronnie is getting stuffed in the normal package...do we stop trying to run up the middle? NO...so, why stop trying to pick up short yardage 1st downs, while making the defense spend more time preparing for it.
Other teams are now making it work...although some just hike it to the RB like he is the QB...ohhhh what a surprise. It does not work as well without the SPEEDY motion threat outside run.
Keep on keeping on!!!
