Since the majority of you people dog Saban out for every move he makes or has made, why wont you put yourself in his shoes and tell everyone in finheaven what you would have done differently since when he tookover.

Lets hear it.

While I agree with the sentiment, the approach is lax.

The issue you have to deal with is hindsight, and the fact that no one here actually has practical knowledge of how the salary cap works. It's easy to say I'd have signed Drew Brees instead of Daunte Culpepper, given Lavar Arrington whatever he wanted, signing the best offensive linemen available, hiring Joe Schmoe as the offensive cooridinator, and also drafting such and such a player with the first and second round pick.

It's much more difficult to do it when you don't know what's going to happen...

Why bother:shakeno: Its not gonna change a damn thing.

If Hindsight was our coach, we would never lose!

Speaking completely in hindsight, maybe hiring Linhan for OC wasn't the best move since it appeared he was going to be a HC soon. It would deffinately benefit us to have the same system for more than 2 years. That being said at the time Saban hired the best coach available for OC. He did the same this year. Don't forget were it not for the questionable play of Neil O'Donnel the Stealers would have beaten the almighty Cowboys in the SB. And Coach Saban has made this new OC run the old OC's offense. Thats the right decision, bring stability to the O playbook. A player comfortable and confident in the system plays at a much higher level.

For starters, I wouldn't have signed either Brees or Culpepper. I would have drafted a young QB and developed him. I also would have gotten what I could get for Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas---they're great guys and great players, but they will not be around when this team is ready for a SB run.
Then I would have drafted what I could to fill the holes, and taken my lumps this year until I could draft again.

First, I like what Saban is doing here. I've only disagreed with a couple of decisions from the beginning.

Rumor was that there was an opportunity to get Rivers (before the Brees' injury) for our first round pick. I would have done that in a heartbeat. It was no less a risk than Brees or Culpepper, and he was younger.

Second, Mularky was a mistake everyone can agree on. If we really wanted to keep Linehan's system (which I didn't love anyway), then I would have promoted internally. Garrett seemed like a likely guy.

Finally, I wasn't a big fan of the Toledo pick. The guy seemed too injury prone to cut it as a professional. I believe a big lineman had dropped to the fourth as well, like Jean-Giles of Jon Scott. Would've drafted either one of them there.

I can only think of one thing i would have done differantly.I woud'nt have Hired Mularkey.I would have tried to hire Al Saunders and if i couldnt get him i would have gone for Mike Martz:cooldude:

Kevin Carter would not have been signed. Mare would have been cut. Gus would have been retained to groom the STUD QB I would have drafted. Shelton would not have been picked up. I would explore trading JT for picks. I would have drafted an O-Lineman instead of a backup safety. with one of the higher picks . I could go on and on and on...

not start culpepper, i knew you knew the whole team knew he was'nt ready,i would also be platooning all of my young players yesterday

Saban is not the problem. Wannstadt & Spielman are still the problem he ruined us for years. Trading away draft picks for garbage....... gordon, aj feely, ricky williams (two first rounds not a fair price for what he gave us). Horrible draft picks........ Jamar Fletcher in the first( We had surtain & madison). Giving away young talent for didly squat......ogunleye for an aged reciever....jamar fletcher to the chargers for what? At a critical point our new talent stopped comming in while our team aged......It could take a while for these devastating management blunders to be overcome...We'll have to be patient.

I would have traded ogunleye and madison to bump up and have a chance at either rivers, mannning or rothlisberger the year they all came out

I said this in another thread. The next Fins HC will come from this forum. Probably the next GM and Oc, too. Heck, maybe even the new owner. With all these "I have the answer to everything" geniuses here, WH would be a fool to look anywhere else. Cap space? We had millions to play with this year, and we didn't get Arrington, Hutchinson AND Brees? Somebody here could have made that happen easily. Well, it's 15 minutes before kickoff, let me go and enjoy watching my favorite team play.

You nailed it! Though I really can't stand Martz, but he'd be a great OC for us I imagine.

This was a HUGE win no doubt, I'm very proud of them today, but until I see them play this way on a consistant basis, they're still only a 2-6 team in my eyes...

I'm no arm chair GM, but I do vent my frustrations from time to time when it's warranted. They deserve many praisings this week, and I can only hope they build off of this win, and finish the remainder of the season strong.....

PHINZ RULE!!!
