To Those Still Lamenting The Earlier Losses To Buffalo, Tampa Bay & Carolina

I would argue that, assuming the Dolphins win out and become the #6 seed, that scenario offers the Dolphins the best chance for playoff success.

Just recall that 3 times within the last few years it has been the #6 seed that had to win their last several games just to make the playoffs that went on to win the Superbowl. The Packers, Steelers & Giants come to mind.

I'm trying not to look too far ahead and realize that the Buffalo game will be very difficult and Jets games are always unpredictable. But should the Dolphins win out I think that the lessons learned from earlier losses will pay dividends down the road, no matter how the rest of the season plays out. As we have seen of late, it's not necessarily the best team that wins the Superbowl; rather, it's the hottest team which had to run the table just to make the playoffs.

Part of it comes down to those 6th seeded teams being battle tasted and in "playoff mode" weeks prior to the actual playoffs. Momentum plays a huge part of playoff runs.

Here is to the Bills giving you another loss up in Buffalo this weekend

If the Dolphins stay focused it might be a good thing for us that we lost to the Bills, we should not be taking a win for granted at all this time.

The loss I bemoan is the Ravens. Had we won that game we would have already clinched at least a WC and are pushing the Pats for the division.

Its an exercise in futility to lament about loses from weeks ago. If we would of won any one of them in particular, who knows how the rest of the year would of transpired. If we would of won the Buffalo game, our record might of been better than it is now or it might of been worse. One thing is a certanity though, if you change the outcome of any one of those particular games, the following weeks would of happened in a completely different manner than did actually occur, maybe for better or maybe for worse

The only way I will be lamenting losses to these piss poor teams is if we miss the playoffs.

But every week in the NFL you see upsets and teams that should win getting beat. That's why you have to play 60 minutes of football and never take anyone lightly. I think the bad losses and upset wins cancel each other out. I thought we would go 9-7 this season, and this is about where we are at give or take a game. It's hard for a Wildcard to win the SB as you have to win three games just to get into the SB, but there have been a few teams who have done this as of late, so why not us???

The 1st round bye for whatever reason has proved to be less of an advantage in recent years. Last year it was the Ravens who had to play the extra game and defeated both the #1 and #2 seeds on the road.

I want the Dolphins playing the extra game. I want them taking advantage of their momentum should they win the next two games. And for some reason I feel more confident in the Dolphins winning a playoff game on the road.

If we won those three games and win out, we'd probably be the top seed with a first round bye and two home games in the playoffs. That's the easiest path to the Super Bowl.

I can recall 3:

Double OT game @KC

AFC title game in Pittsburgh en route to undefeated season

Marino's last year, I think. They won in Seattle before the debacle in Jacksonville.

Any others?

The thing is, I saw a stat yesterday that really surprised me:

In the history of the Miami Dolphins, they have only won THREE playoff games on the road. I suppose part of that is due to hosting a lot of playoff games, but with this franchise's success over the years, I found that hard to believe, even though I know it's true

I for one am not taking that game lightly. We have not played EJ yet. Who knows what plan we have for him. But I know these things.
We won't get swept by the Bills.
Our defense is playing nasty good
And from Pittsburgh, we know we can play in the snow and put up 34 points. Bills better than Steelers? I don't think so..
