Today in 1973

 They cant match half of what they did back then? How pathetic this franchise has become. Its saddening.

well, the team isn't even half as good as they were back then, and they've been this way for over a decade, closing in on 2 decades. what do you expect? who wants to pay money to watch a team lose, when you can do that in the comfort of your own home, with these awesome tv's. lol

We had just played in our second consecutive super bowl and had an undefeated record the year before. Start winning and maybe one day we'll get back to those levels.

across the league ticket sales are down w/ prices up and the home experience so much better than it used to be.

I was happily among the 74,961. My dad always parked a few blocks south of the stadium, for free in the parking lot of a lawyer's office. The same people parked there every game for years. We'd look at each other but never say anything. It was obvious everyone enjoyed the perks of that spot. It was an easy downhill stroll to the Orange Bowl.

Let's see, I guess we were anticipating the '73 opener at this point, although the schedule probably hadn't been released yet. I remember that game very well. The 49ers were feisty and well prepared but the heat on that Poly Turf got to them, specifically John Brodie who slumped on the bench after having to leave the game due to the conditions.

I didn't realize the Orange Bowl held that many people, what a great homefield advantage you used to have

Once the stadium is renovated, that closer to the field feel will return. Thanks goodness Ross is planning on paying it for himself and doing everything to improve the stadium experience, bring big events back to South Florida, create local jobs and pour more money into the local community.

"Downhill"? In South Florida? Lol, is there such a thing? :chuckle:

I agree, people don't give the guy enough credit. Ross is doing more than the status quo as an NFL owner.

I wonder what the average ticket price was in 1973...

I couldn't find it for season tickets, but the average NFL ticket was $6.50 per game in 1973,,,,,so I am guessing.... x 7 home games = roughly $50 bucks. That won't even get you ONE nose bleed ticket today. Ohhh wait......you also had to pay for 2-3 preseason games. So maybe a little over $50...but gas was 36 cents a gallon.
