There's rumors floating around the last few months about this kid and the bears splitting at the end of the season. If we took a look at this guy how well do you think he would be in a 3-4 base defense? I know he's not exactly an ideal size for a 3-4 DT but what if he would join the fins and played the DE on 1&2 downs and DT on 3rd down passing situations. He's pretty good vs the run but the bears run alot of 4-3 and 4-6. Just getting some ideas here. I think he would be a great addition to playing in the 3-4 if he played DE and DT on passing downs. What do you guys think?

Heres some notable free agents after the 2009 season.

Vince Wilfork, New England Patriots (27)
Casey Hampton, Pittsburgh Steelers (31)
Ryan Pickett, Green Bay Packers (29)
Johnny Jolly, Green Bay Packers (26)
Tony Brown, Tennessee Titans (28)
Kendrick Clancy, New Orleans Saints (31)
Barry Cofield, New York Giants (25)
Jason Ferguson, Miami Dolphins (34)
Aubrayo Franklin, San Francisco 49ers (29)
Kedric Golston, Washington Redskins (26)
Tank Johnson, Cincinnati Bengals (27)
Travis Johnson, San Diego Chargers (27)
Fred Robbins, New York Giants (32)
Clifton Ryan, St. Louis Rams (25)
Tank Tyler, Carolina Panthers (24) – Restricted FA

With the possibility of Wilfork being tagged i really like a few on this list as well. Kedric Golston, Johnny Jolly and Casey Hampton are intriguing and if we get Ferguson back healthy we could sign one of these guys to rotate in and out with and use our picks on ILB's and Safeties. Of course we need wr's but im sure the Tuna wont waste any 1st or 2nd rounders on one.

Would anyone else like to see the Phins just move back to a 4-3 defense? As to the OP I don't think Harris would fit in a 3-4 except maybe at DE but they're not going to try to sign him to a big contract to play that. If we ran a 4-3 I could see a lineup of Harris and Ferguson/Solai/Starks at DT and JT and Wake at DE but it won't happen.

As far as the draft, you can forget Parcells drafting a NT in the first round, or early. He likes to find gems late at that position, or finding them undrafted.

He likes to develop them.

Look at Jason Ferguson and Ratliff.. Both 7th rounders

I'll bet he goes LB in the 1st round next year. And maybe the 2nd as well. He loves his LB's, and boy do we need them. Him and Ireland may draft 4 or 5 of them with this linebacking corps we have now.

I would love to see Miami move to a 4-3. I am not a big fan of the 3-4 because the players have to be too specialized, and Miami’s LBs are not that athletic, they may be the slowest in the NFL. I think Miami could have one of if not the best front 4 in the NFL if they went to a 4-3.

RDE - Wake, JT (in a back up role), Moses
LDE - Langford, Merling
DT - Soliai, Starks, McDaniel, Langford, Merling

LB's need to be revamped

Jacksonville when they had Stroud and Henderson were a team you pretty much could not run on, and I think the combo of Soliai, Starks and McDaniel could be as good.

Agree, and I think Kindle is a guy they would look very hard at in round 1.

It's not going to happen with Parcells' around. They will keep trying to find those special linebackers to fit their system.

Tommie Harris is a dominant DT, no question about his abliity. But the guy gets injured far too much and is very hard to rely on for an entire season in that sense.

As size goes, he is pretty similar to that of Jay Raliff (6-4, 303lbs), while Harris is 6-3 295. So maybe he could play NT, but injuries would still be a huge worry.

If Harris is already injury prone as a 4-3 DT, he will see retirement within 6 months playing the 3-4 nosetackle position.

I was just thinking that if he did come here he wouldn't be playing every down, maybe 70% of the plays while he would be rotating in and out with the depth we already have. I honestly think he would be a tremendous DE in a 3-4 defense and wouldn't be double teamed as much. And at this point in his career he's not going to get #1 DT money out on the open market. I think he was overused in Chicago way to much.
