Any time Miami and Buffalo hook up for a game, it seems to have playoff atmosphere. These teams don't like each other and it's a complete clash of differnt climates and life styles. Tomorrow's game has some very interesting matchups and I want to take a look at 3 of them.
1.) J.P Losman vs. Miami Secondary-
Losman has been playing pretty well in the second half of the season and has all but secured his QB job for next season. The weather should be fair and will allow Losman to throw the football. Miami has one of the strongest pass rushes and one of the best run defenses in football, so I believe Losman will have to beat this team through the air. Losman has great escape ability but will have a tougher time stretching the pocket against a pretty quick front line of Miami. Losman's favorite target is Lee Evans who has hit several homeruns this season. I look for the strong and speedy Will Allen to be bumping Evans off the line and trying to lock him down before he can get downfield. This also helps the run game as Allen will be in position to make a play on the outside. No other Buffalo receiver really scares me so I think we just match our 2 with their 2, our 3 with theres and so on. Miami also needs to make sure we don't let Roscoe Parrish get free from that slot position and the Dolphins better make sure they don't allow a linebacker on Parrish.
I give this matchup to the Miami secondary
2.) Sammy Morris vs. Buffalo run D-
Buffalo doesn't stop the run well, at all. In the September matchup in Miami, Ronnie Brown has a good YPC average but the Dolphins abonded the run early. Sammy Morris has ran pretty well in Ronnie's absence and has been able to secure the ball cutting down his fumbles. Takeo Spikes has been a huge part of the Buffalo defense and he will play despite leaving last week's game with a leg injury. Aaron Schobel has been rushing the passer well all year but I'm not very confident in his ability to shed or take on blockers against the run. Jacksonville shut down Morris, but he ran ramped on New England. My prediction;
Morris never really gets going, but Miami can maintain a running attack. I'll give the edge to Buffalo.
3.) Chris Chambers vs. Nate Clements-
Last December, Chambers had the best game a Miami receiver has ever seen. 15 catches, 238 yards and a game winning TD catch in the final seconds. Chambers ran over, under neath and all over Clements all day long. Earlier this season, Chambers caught a TD pass but for the most part, was silent. It has been a tough season for Chambers who has struggled through 2 more quarterbacks, another offensive coordinator and poor passing accuracy down field. I see Chambers succeeding underneath for the first time this season. Clements should be backing off Chambers allowing a nice cushion for Chris to get free on. Clements could be on his way out of Buffalo after this season and Chambers may help his decision to leave western New York.
I believe Chambers enjoys a 100 yard day and beats Clements early and often in this one.
So those are my 3 key matchups I look out. I know there is a matter of Willis McGahee going up against the Miami run D, but I don't think that is the one that will settle the game. It's power against power and if Buffalo wants to win, they will have to be effective in the passing game. Should be a great game, and nothing is better than beating Buffalo.
