Can anyone give me some insight on this kid? I know he was a two way player at Michigan State at WR and CB. I know he is very raw but has talent, but I am unsure how I should be feeling about him right now. I keep hearing he is in the mix for the #2 CB spot, now I don't know if that is a good or bad thing. Is this kid a prodigy that has just picked up on a new position at the NFL level very quickly and I should be very excited that we got a late round diamond or should I be terrified that our CB position is so bad a 5th round WR being transitioned to CB is literally one of our top 3 options this year.

We probably have the worst cb group in the NFL. Being our no2 does not make you a prodigy

Miami may have the worst corner group but imo, if Maxwell stays healthy, Miami's CBs will be better than last year.

Maxwell will play better this year than Grimes played last year -- and McCain will man the slot better. IF they get a boundary CB to play better than Jamar Taylor, then Miami has better CBs than last year. Travesty, last year.

I'm far more bullish on these CBs than last year's crop. Anyone watching Grimes looking like a 3rd grader against AFCE WRs, and Taylor trying to pretend to be a CB in his third year -- so sad. Pure Philbin.

Xazier Howard should be good. Lets wait for him to get in the field. Howard will probably beat out Lippet. Lippet is intriguing but more of a project

Yet Jamar Taylor is currently running with the 1st team D in Cleveland. Cleveland has 1 stud CB and Jamar Taylor. Think I'd keep our group in a straight up trade of all corners between us and Cleveland.

How do you know that? What do you base these statements on? Or should the phrase "I hope" be inserted into each of those statements?

Cleveland also ran with Hartline and Bess as 1s after Miami finally cast them off.

Gotta love Cleveland, lol.

And yes, I'd keep our group in a straight up trade w. Cleveland. No way do I want Taylor back on the roster.

Size, yes. Ball skills, yes. Athletic ability, no.

imo = in my opinion.

Which is an educated football opinion. Overwhelming more right than wrong on all individual players. I've been known for a long time as a downer, because I've been down on certain players -- I view myself more as a realist. I'm high on players that have football upside. And Maxwell will play immensely better than Grimes against the WRs that beat Grimes like a rented mule. Pretty much a guarantee.

Lippett wasn't just another WR at Michigan State, he was the top WR on a very good team. (They even won the Rose Bowl in 2014). He is 6' 2" and 192 lbs and has good hands. It is rare for such a good receiver in college to convert back to cornerback. My read is that he is still developing his skills and instincts as a cornerback. He will be a very interesting player to watch if/when the opposing QB misdirects his throw and it is heading to Lippett. I expect that he will go for the interception because his catching skills are good. Make no mistake, Lippett is a development prospect and the prototype is Richard Sherman. A very interesting prospect. I expect him to start with Xavien Howard and Chris Culliver currently sidelined on the PUP. If Lippett does well in the remaining trial games, he can be considered a probable starter in game 1.

Lippet lacks some explosiveness and speed, but he is a "football player". I think he is a borderline cb2 depending on Howard, McCain in slot

I think Lippett will be the kind of player that will both delight and upset fans. He will make some great plays and will also get beaten badly. He could be the kind of corner that grabs 4 INTs this season but also frequently gets beaten by virtue of his lack of experience. I'm kind of ready for this over players that are consistently meh.

I like the idea of a young, athletic, big bodied CB as depth over a journeyman vet. Lippet, if he gets significant snaps, will currently be exposed. However, the kid has good upside, is cheap, and can be scheme hidden if not in too often before ready. Let's hope we don't see him a ton this year and he turns a corner for next year.
