Flipping through the movies on directv and saw his name in this movie. I wasn't aware there was a movie about him at Alabama?

Great player for us old fans.

Tony was a good player and is a really nice guy. Wish him well.
Jon Voight is in it too.

Just barely before my time.

He was a good player for us like many before....our history seems a lot more impressive than the recent teams unfortunately.

For those who weren't around at the time, Tony Nathan was, and still remains, one of the greatest high school football players in Birmingham history. As one of his former Woodlawn teammates said, "Before Bo (Jackson), there was Tony." After Nathan switched from defensive back to running back following his sophomore season at Woodlawn, he made an immediate impact on the offensive side of the ball. Sports Illustrated featured him in its "Faces in the Crowd" section after he ran for 228 yards and scored seven touchdowns against city rival Ramsay, and he was named a prestigious Parade All-American his senior season. A prize recruit, Nathan played for Paul "Bear" Bryant at the University of Alabama, where he won a national championship in 1978. Then, selected by the Miami Dolphins in the third round of the 1979 NFL Draft, Nathan went on to play nine years with the Dolphins and coach Don Shula, for whom he started in two Super Bowls.

One of my all time favorite dolphins. The movie doesnt look good but because of Tony Nathan I will watch

I saw it in the theaters a few months ago. Good, not a great movie. Don't go into it thinking of it as a great bio pick. It's more of a Christian-themed story about how Tony Nathan's high school team used the power of prayer and Christian values to overcome bigotry and mistrust and come together as a team.

Exactly, just watched it, that's a good description of the movie. The movie did capture the fact that Tony was an excellent football player though also - which is always enjoyable to see from a Dolphin player.

Tony was so versatile for the Dolphins. He was a fluid runner and patient. Really good on the sweeps / tosses. And he had great hands - terrific receiver out of the backfield. Seemed like a really unselfish player. And who can forget him on the receiving end of the hook and lateral play, holding the ball in the air around the 15 knowing he was going to score? What a thrill. Tony Nathan was one of the all time best "all round players" the Dolphins have ever had.
