An 0-4 start justifies a firing, but a 1-3 start, which projects to a 4-12 season, does not?

I've been in his corner since beginning of last year (I didnt like the initial hiring AT ALL), but I agree. 0-4 would indeed be all the rope he should be given.

Perhaps not a 1-3 start, but a 1-5 start would I imagine.

A 4-12 season, regardless of how they got there, would also..hell, if we finish 4th in the division with a .500 record, his backside better be GONE!!!

whats the diff? apparently, the team has quit. whats the f'n difference?

IMO, he will be let go sooner or later. The only thing that saves him is win the next two games, otherwise, the bye week makes for a nice letgo.

it should not had gotten to this point....we should already have a new HC

Ozzy rules!!

The best guess is that Ross, in post-Sparano phase, would prefer a celebrity-name coach (see: Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden, most notably) and hand him whatever power is necessary to get him.

But the rub is that Miami has slipped so precipitously as a franchise that it's not an enticing job. There's simply not much to sell when it comes to the Dolphins' brand these days.

Miami is just another NFL team, and has been for a while. The Dolphins are anonymous. They're filler.
Sadly, I think this part of the article is pretty accurate. Getting one of the "Big Three" in Cowher, Gruden and Fisher, might not be all that realistic. These guys are respected coaches for the most part and have made a name for themselves in the history book. Unless they absolutley want to coach in 2012 and there are no other jobs, it will be a tough sell imo.

Who would want to come to a team that seems to change coaches every 3-5 seasons and offers no real long term situation. If you don't win right away, the front office and fans start looking to replace you as soon as just two seasons. Even if Bill Cowher came here, and say put together a 6-10 and 8-8 season in his first two seasons, people would start calling for his head and looking for someone else. On top of that, it is a mediocre local base so it is definitely going to be a hard sell. Ross is going to have to shell out some MASSIVE money and POWER to land one of these top guys. We will probably end up with some loser like Rob Ryan or Mike Nolan as head coach.

You cannot look down the schedule and pencil in a single win based on what we haveseen so far. This could get really really ugly. This team is very poorly coached. Players are not being utilizedto the fullest potential. Sporano has never out coached an opponent unless youwant to count the surprise unveiling of the wildcat against New England. He thought Dan Henning was greatbecause Dan knew more than he did. Enough said.

coaches come here to cash in and leave after 2-3 years. Players come here to cash in. JT even came back to cash in one more time just to play the media thang again and only after two games! Its no wonder Soliai isnt getting a deal. He is getting paid wilfork money and doesnt even deserve it and his agent is making fins look bad for rejecting that offer? forget it, soliai is playing miami for money and when he gets it, he will turn into vernon carey.

IT'S WEEK TWO NOT TWELVE. Why is everyone in panic mode?? Firing the coach after two, three or four weeks, is insane. We started 2-0 last year and still ended 7-9. This is not a fast start team we haven’t been since the late 90's early 2000's. One thing bout this team with the exception of last year the team end the year better than it started.

I hate the fact that we are 0-2 but I also like the fact that Henne hasn't lost either one of the games for the team. I like that we are attacking the defenses and evidentially this team will drop a 40 banger on someone this year watch and see. The defense for some strange reason can't stop a nose bleed so far but I think that has a lot to do with Jones being back in the safety position. He is looking to make a play instead of playing within the system.

Daniel Thomas looked really sharp and Henne looks he could be decent if not good this year. His two interceptions were a force throw at the end of week one and a tip ball in week 2. I will not be asking for Sparano head until after week 8 that is when the pretenders sit down and real teams stand up. Let's hope we are in position to make some noise.

The average NFL coaching tenure is a little over 4 seasons(~4.3) so Sparano's tenure would just be shy of the average if he finishes out the season. Jimmy had about the same, Wanny a bit longer, and Saban left on his own will. The only coach to not really get the long term situation is Cameron. If you miss the playoffs in 3 straight seasons and don't show much improvement in the process, you're out the door. All those guys know that.

The is so true. Especially the part where Sparano never out coached an opponent. How can any sane fan follow such ineptness.

Coaching turnover happens LOTS of places though Josh. Unless you have an upper-epsilon coach, or one with early success, its part of the business. Instant gratification.

I REALLY hope Nolan is our DC forever. He was absolutely terrible as a Head Coach, and once again, I think he's brilliant as DC....or I did till this season

One thing to keep in mind, if you go back and study the best coaches in NFL History, most, like 95% were absolutely PUTRID their first 5 or 6 season. I'm not saying Sparano will turn it around, he has also lost me at this point, I'm just pointing out it is almost impossible for a coach to come in and instantly turn a team around.

Lets look at some numbers:

Coach/Year/Record

Tom Landry
1960-0-11-1
1961-4-9-1
62-5-8-1
63-4-10-0
64-5-8-1
65-7-7-0
66-10-3-1
and he went on a tear after that

Bill Billicheat
1991 6-10-0
92-7-9-0
93-7-9-0
9411-5-0
95-5-11 (He then wasnt a head coach again till 2000 with the Cheatriots
2000 -5-11

Bill Walsh
1979 2-14-0
80-6-10-0
81-13-3-0
82-3-6-0

With the exception of our Beloved Shula, and Cowher some of whom I consider the very best coaches, didnt start out so well either. I still think a LARGE part of Billicheat's success is tied directly into lucking out with Tammy Brady in the 6th round.

Name some other top-tier Coaches. I have all the records bookmarked
