Tony Sparano is on the clock; an 0-4 start would be enough to justify firing

I have been thinking the past few days about who I would want if Sparano is fired. While I don't like the fact that it took him 15 years to win a Super Bowl, Bill Cowher would be my guy. Not a huge Gruden fan and not real sold on Fisher. Rob Ryan is a bum, Mike Nolan is not a NFL head coach and anyone else will come with major question marks. I think Cowher would represent the team well and give them a better chance for a quick turnaround. Not sure if he is all that attainable with potential openings in New York and Houston at the end of the season.

I have to believe Ross told Tony: make the playoffs or you're out. Amazingly in only 2 games, we're pretty much out of the playoffs. Going 0-2 always makes the playoffs a longshot but considering they were both home games and everyone else in our division is undefeated. The justification is already there.

THIS is all very accurate in regards to the coaches (I agree with Cowher, but he competed every year and his FO stuck with him)....but I dont think there will be an opening in Houston after this season either.

We would NEVER dig ourselves out of an 0-4 hole. 0-2 is bad enough but 0-4 and Sparano definitely needs to go.

Yeah, in one of my retorte's I was going to mention that timing is EVERYTHING in regards to who his replacement is.

I agree, Ireland's playing it smart with Soliai. I love the big guy for his talent, but I know his history of being overweight and out of shape.

I've loved the guy since we drafted him (Partly cause I'm a HUGE Mountain West Guy) and have been patiently awaiting his arrival. And although I think he was incredible last year, and still could be a top 5 NT, he has had exactly 1 stellar year. Not enough to garner ridiculous money.... YET

Sadly, I think this part of the article is pretty accurate. Getting one of the "Big Three" in Cowher, Gruden and Fisher, might not be all that realistic. These guys are respected coaches for the most part and have made a name for themselves in the history book. Unless they absolutley want to coach in 2012 and there are no other jobs, it will be a tough sell imo.

Who would want to come to a team that seems to change coaches every 3-5 seasons and offers no real long term situation. If you don't win right away, the front office and fans start looking to replace you as soon as just two seasons. Even if Bill Cowher came here, and say put together a 6-10 and 8-8 season in his first two seasons, people would start calling for his head and looking for someone else. On top of that, it is a mediocre local base so it is definitely going to be a hard sell. Ross is going to have to shell out some MASSIVE money and POWER to land one of these top guys. We will probably end up with some loser like Rob Ryan or Mike Nolan as head coach.

Instead of progressing he's been regressing so he does in fact need to be fired. It may take several years for a new head coach to finally start winning but as long as there's steady progress I'd be okay with it

Being realistic an embarrassing loss at Cleveland might be the end.

Cowher would be a good choice with no interm coach for reasons stated.

IMO, he will be let go sooner or later. The only thing that saves him is win the next two games, otherwise, the bye week makes for a nice letgo.

In reality, they quit last season near the end....thats why some of us "haters" felt a change was needed after last season.

I think once a team loses faith in their coach, you never get it back.

Wrong......no team or organization or fan base is going to give an unlimited amount of time for a head coach to show improvement, and regression is certainly unacceptable.


This is the 4th year of Sparano and this team seems to have quit on him in some respects, that is an unavoidable cause for termination in the life of a head coach...no matter how long you've been there.


No quality head coach would fear a 4 year deal, fully understanding that improvement (progression versus regression) is to be expected. Like Jerry Glanville said...this the NFL....which means Not For Long!
