“It’s important to win,” Sparano said at his daily press briefing. “Every time they keep score and every time we get a chance to compete out there, we want to win.
“It’s all about changing the culture. We’re not there yet, and we certainly know that. Regardless of what happened a year ago we’re not where we want to be from a full culture change. We’ve got some things we want to get done, and every time we take the field we want to win the game.
“We’re not gonna sacrifice what we need to do from an evaluation stadnpoint in preseason games - I’m not going to leave people in the game just to win the game - but we’re counting on these younger players to go out and play the games and have a chance to win the games, no different than veteran players. But we want to win.”

I like the attitude and he's absoloutely right, everytime we hit the field we should be doing so with the intention of winning. Preseason or not.

Cant agree anymore.
You want our starters to beat their starters.
You want our Backups to Beat their backups.
You want our younguys to beat their younguys.

Its one way to show progression as a program if you can continously win at all three levels.

You just want every player to feel a sense of urgency about doing what they can to win the game, every time they strap on the pads.

and just yesterday everyone was agreeing preseason is no big deal, and who cares about wins or losses?

Winning in preseason creates confidence and builds momentum for the regular season.

However, I will say I look at preseason games in a different way with regards to the final score. A win to me is the Phins first team beating the opponents first team, whether they play for 1 quarter or 2 quarters even if Miami loses in the end.

Winning a preseason creates confidence, Ok ask the Lions last year 4 and 0 preseason 0 and 16 regular alot of confidence.

Gee Im glad he doesnt have the mindset of Wanny: Go out have fun, it doesnt matter whether you win or lose just as long as you had fun!

While winning preseason games is nice, I think it's more important to get the backups and young guys the reps. Best case scenario is close game so those guys can get experience in the 2 minute offense and they can play under some gametime pressure. I would rather be behind and give Henne or White a chance to lead the team down the field for the winning score than win in a blowout. Win or lose that gives them some pretty valuable experience you can't get in practice. Especially if it's a road game.

Of course you want to win, its fun to win, but its not nearly the most important thing of the preseason.

Gotta love this guy. There's no HC in the league I'd rather have with the possible exception of Belicheat, if putting ethics and morality aside.

WOW, stop the presses. A coach who wants to win in pre-season.

Name one who does not? :)
