..and from the looks of him, his laurels are probably covered in a thick, creamy cheese sauce.

This guy (other than Wanny) has been THE common thread in our O'line suckiness for years now. Did you all see him there last night? While McMichael is throwing his helmet and screaming at the O'Line out of frustration, Tony Wise is down on one knee staring at overhead photographs, like the pictures are gonna give his players heart. NO FIRE, NO PASSION, NO EMOTION... He was just sitting there looking like Wilfred Brimley trying to make out the words on his Lortab subscription... I'm sorry but this guy hasn't coached a good run AND pass blocking O'Line since his days with Dallas.

Don't give me the "he hasn't had any talent to work with" crap either, GOOD coaches can overcome a lack of talent, and they bring out talent in players that others didn't think was there. Yes I know that Cincy took advantage of our newbie backfield, but thats just an excuse, there were plenty of times where our O'Line just got beat, and/or missed assignments.

Would anyone be opposed to Wayne Huizenga driving a dump truck full of money up to Alex Gibbs' house in Atlanta and saying "this is yours if you'll be our OL coach"?

There's plenty of blame to go around when the OL looks this bad, and Wise deserves a big share.

I agree. Tony Wise has done absolutely nothing impressive since he's been here. Not one player has gotten BETTER under his leadership. That about says it all.

agreed. if you look at NEs OLine, there is only one high calibur lineman (matt light) and the rest are either sixth or seventh round draft picks...yet they get it done..i don't think emotion would have stirred these guys to do anything differently however...bad coaching is bad coaching...by the way, what laurels does tony wise have to sit on, the guy has never done anything worthy of laurels

Wow...you deserve high praise for making a Wilford Brimley reference. Funniest thing I've read in awhile.

Oh and I agree with the rest of your post. Tony Wise is the Tom Olivadotti of this coaching regime.

I thought he was the o-line coach during Jimmy Johnson's super bowl days at Dallas. If not then what the hell is he still doing here?

Our former O-Line coach is at Carolina - look where they went last year....

It should have been a tell-tale sign when we decided to let Kevin Donelly go (who happened to go to the SB last year) and take in his place Todd Perry - from the Bears (ooooh - they've been a FORCE for YEARS.....).

Those are two examples of the F***** UP decisions made the last couple of years.

I have to agree, there is no way talent wise this line is worse than last year's line. They just are not coached up. There is no motivation on the line, Wade SMith hardly even tried to block last night. I will support Wanny because I don;t htink he is an awful coach, but WIse was pathetic. If I have to blame Wanny for keeping Wise around when it is obviousl the OL is not coached up, then I blame him for that.

Wise is like Wannstedt, Turner and every other coach who were a part of the those Cowboy Super Bowl teams--lucky to have been there when JJ assembled once in generation talent on the same team. What have any of those Cowboy guys done since then--NOTHING. I could have coached the line of those Cowboy teams. What a pathetic coaching display, it didn't even look like the O-line has a training camp.

I never really realized the importance of an oline until this year...behind qb, it may be the most important element on the offensive side...

I agree, all the Cincy Defensive players looked lean, strong and fast. Most of our offensive line players looked FAT, SLOW, and TIRED. Its become clear to me that its an on field reflection of their line coach.

I'm watching Smith repeatedly wiff on guys, something we saw all preseason, and we keep trotting him out there. You can blame Wise, but some of our guys just suck.

Really? Check out this thread on the subject I started almost a year ago.

Maybe having an A** like Jimmy Johnson to fear as a head coach helped motivate the asst. coaches on the Dallas teams. Now, the asst. coaches and players fear no one.

Why was it McMichael over there yelling at the O-line? Why wasn't Wannestedt over there getting on them - or getting on Wise?

It is becoming more and more apparent that the COACHING aspect is not being addressed. Time for something new. I give him a few more games - and then predict a mid-season change. If we're 0-5, I think we'll have a new coach this season.
