Year after year, college football programs take raw high school players and develop them into rock-hard football machines; however, some universities seem to do it on a much more consistent basis. The following 10 schools have shown that even though the competition is tough, their cream of the crop rises to the top and NFL teams get what they need.
Number 10
University of Miami
Number of NFL graduates: 292
Reason for success: The state of Florida is second to none when it comes to talented high school players. Miami certainly gains its share of NFL-caliber recruits from within the state, and has been doing so since the early 1980s, when Howard Schnellenberger and Jimmy Johnson converted raw talent into unparalleled production on the field. Five total national championships and a 58-game at-home winning streak from 1985 to 1994 created a legacy that oozes winners and NFL talent -- no school has produced as much first-round NFL product as the Hurricanes.
Honors list: Four total NFL Hall of Famers, including Michael Irvin, Jim Kelly and Ted Hendricks. Also among the alumni are Bernie Kosar, Vinny Testaverde, Russell Maryland, Warren Sapp, Ray Lewis, Edgerrin James, and Jeremy Shockey.
Class of 2008: Wide receiver Lance Leggett could follow Irvin and will scare NFL defensive backs. Quarterback Kyle Wright has gobs of talent and the frame to succeed against higher competition.
