Beware, some of this is based on my opinion. However, using multiple sources: Bleacher Report, NFL.com, Foxsports, and some others I Googled, I came up with the top 10 most important positions and where Fins’ starters rank in the NFL at these positions.
I found this to be an interesting idea to use as a litmus test for where Miami stands against the rest of the talent in the league based on importance of position. I’m using a range as rankings that vary per site and I’m merely aiming for some perspective. Ranking on a scale of 1-32 comparing Miami’s top players to all top starters in the NFL. Teams with multiple players ranked ahead were thrown out (only using their best). The order of position importance has a slight variance if 1-2 up or down. Each site had a slightly different order. A couple of Miami’s starters are unproven, thus making it tough to rank. They also have the most to lose/gain; which could impact the roster the most.
1. QB - RT. Top 12-15
2. DE - Quinn. Top 15-18
3. LT - Tunsil. Top 15-18
4. CB - Howard. Top 20-24
5. DT - Godchaux. Top 22-26 (unproven)
6. S - Jones. 8-10
7. WR - Parker. 22-26*
8. TE - Gesicki. 15-18 (Unproven)
9. MLB - McMillan. 15-18 (unproven)
10. C - Kilgore. 24-28
11. RB - Drake. 10-12 not noting Drake would be a travesty. Many have RB position in the 12-15 range of overall importance.
*Parker is unproven as their main guy but has been around long enough to prove himself as a legit weapon.
Feel free to debate rankings or importance of position. I wont be offended if you think I’m completely nuts either. Side note: Guys like Howard, Godchaux, Parker, Tunsil, McMillan and Quinn weren’t even in the top 32 at their positions on multiple sites, and I bumped them up.
