NFL Network didn't exist in 1973, but if it did how many Dolphins do you think make the top 100 list that year? Coming off an undefeated season and two straight super bowl appearances, Miami probably would have put nine players on that list or roughly 10 percent of the entire elite list. Here I the guys I see:

Bob Griese
Larry Csonka
Paul Warfield
Mercury Morris
Jim Langer
Larry Little
Nick Buonticonti (sp)
Dick Anderson
Jake Scott

So for anyone who doesn't believe you need elite players to win at least we can say the last time the Dolphins won big they had quite a few.

Fun post but remember only Warfield and maybe Buoniconti were considered elite before our three consecutive SB appearances. Hence the title "no name" defense.

This is somewhat related but I thought you guys would enjoy this, I was on another site and someone posted some pics of Miami at the Jets in 1974 so many of the '73 guys were still on the team. if this is the wrong spot I apologize but I thought you guys would be interested to see these.

Looks like Kiick may have screwed up from the look Shula and Griese were giving him. His buddy Czonka always had his back.

If it were pictures of jubulent Dolphins beating your team would you still have posted ????

I think not ;)

I checked the box score. The 4 and 7 Jets upset the 8 and 3 Fins thanks to Namath's 45 yd TD passe to Rich Caster late in the fourth quarter for the come from behind victory. You got us that day my friend.

Miami Dolphins-52...New England Patriots-ZERO

Mercury Morris 4 yard rush (Garo Yepremian kick)
Mercury Morris 4 yard rush (Garo Yepremian kick)
Garo Yepremian 16 yard field goal
Larry Csonka 3 yard rush (Garo Yepremian kick)
Mercury Morris 6 yard rush (Garo Yepremian kick)
Marlin Briscoe 16 yard pass from Earl Morrall (Garo Yepremian kick)
Marlin Briscoe 51 yard pass from Jim Del Gaizo (Garo Yepremian kick)
Jim Mandich 39 yard pass from Jim Del Gaizo (Garo Yepremian kick)

Now THAT was a royal azz kicking for the ages.

Good points. There are some young players who could emerge and make this list over the next several years. Guys like Vonatae Davis and Michael Pouncey come to mind. Perhaps Ryan Tannehill a few years down the road.

Thanks for the pics, and see you at Barclays Center (even though I couldn't care less about the NBA, still fun to go to games occasionally).

Of course it depends on the media you choose. If it's the media from '73 then Miami should fair well. If the media from today is used, the same result.....hardly any Phins would be named. Personally tho, I don't give a rats rear what today's media think and I really don't understand why everyone is concerned about it here.

A lot of us (myself included) try to come up with topics during the offseason while we are jonesin' for football. This was a really cool idea. I thanked you for a solid thread!!

Great pics! But dude.... when are you gonna come out of the closet and admit you LOVE the Dolphins? I always had the suspicion but this pretty much solidifies it...

The problem with today's media is that most of them are simply too young to have remembered the Dolphins of the 1970's. It would be an interesting list, though. I'd think a lot of running backs would make the top 100, which would simply reflect the time when the run was king. OJ Simpson might have been #1 on the list.

Agreed. I think most folks on this board wouldn't recognize half the names that would be mentioned on a '73 top 100.
My issue is this inferiority complex that current Dolphins fans have. Are Phins fans egos so fragile that we have to be concerned with what the media thinks of us? It seems that every third article is about this network, or that reporter saying we stink. Well, to be honest, we have stunk. So on that front their right. If and when we start winning, they will proclaim they knew all along we were good. It's the way they work. I just watch Miami hope for a win....get pissed off when we lose, then go on with my week. It sure would be nice if we turned the corner and became relevant again, but the pessimist in me says we won't this year.
(sorry- got off topic).

You forgot Bob Kuechenberg & Bill Stanfill, both of whom would not have been left off that list as well.
