Does anyone realize we have the #4 ranked defense in the NFL after week 6? We are 6th best against the pass, and 10th best against the rush. I am very suprised as I thought our secondary was going to be our weakest link. Daniels has been out and we are ranked near the botom of the league in turnovers- and still have one of the better defenses in the league. Our D has kept us in most games, and probably the only thing to be proud of as of today.

Sorry guys, I'm just tired of all the "Fire Mularkey" and "so and so sucks" threads.

lol yeah, Mularkey has nothing to do with the defense. Honestly tho, how on EARTH are we 6th best against the pass? r u sure its not 6th WORST? and who is our DC...Dom Capers is just an assistant, right?

The defense really deserves better

The funny thing about the points per game is this

14 points were the offenses fault vs the Steelers

7 Points were the offenses fault vs Buffalo

7 vs the Patriots

The offense keeps putting the defense in terrible spots but they still come through a lot of the time

Actually, the pass D has been good for the most part. The trouble is that seem to give 2 big plays per game at the worst possible times. And on those plays, they look really bad.

For example - WTF was up Jackson on that 58-yard TD to Coles? It looked like he bit hard on play action - but there was no play action. WTF?! With the way he abandoned his coverage you'd have thought the Jets were running a flea-flicker.

That should be 17. Not 7.

Also count the amount of times a missed FG has set up the other team in good field position. The piss poor punt, I think that was against NE too or maybe Buffalo.

Then last nights game 3 turnovers and I think they had 13 points off that. I am not sure though.

Alot of people still blamed the defense for our first 4 losses when it was clearly our offense that couldn't get it done. Despite all this all the offense had to do was score 18 points and we would be 4-1 right now.

Oh yeah, and FIRE MULARKEY.

I don't give the defense a free-pass here. Defensive rankings are for "yards allowed". Last year Green Bay was a "top 10 defense", so was Arizona, both teams drafted in the top 10. Our defense gives up big plays at bad times and does not force turnovers. It is easy to be a "top defense" when the opponent is running plays designed to burn up the clock. I put very little stock in "total yards allowed" unless there are wins to back it up.

Dom Capers is our DC, he just can't officially have the title or it would cost the Fins $2 million we'd have to pay Houston.

Coles did a double move or more specifically a post-corner. Jackson and Tillman bit hard on the post and Coles took advantage of it.

You should never bite that hard on a double move.

Your taught (I was anyway) you keep the play in front of you, let them get a 4 yard gain and make the tackle, dont sell out and get burnt for 50 yards

Sorry I believe the rankings are skewed...

70 (10 TDs) of the 91 points scored against us have been by the air...

We are tied with the 29th team for most TDs given up by the air...

Teams are going to a conservative offensive plan against our Defense...

Only 1 team had more pass attempts than rushing attempts in the 2nd half...guess which one that was??? you guess it Tennesee, which had a 40-60 run-pass ratio...

Pit had 60% run-pass ratio...
Bills had 60% run-pass ratio...
Houston had 53% run-pass ratio...
NE had 54% run-pass ratio...
Jets had 48% run-pass ratio...they ran the ball 59% in the 2nd half....

All these opponents ran more than they passed in the 2nd half, even though they could not get better than 2.5-3 YPC...

Why did our opponents not attacked our weakness, which is the pass, more often?
Because the conservative plans are working... we make mistakes on offense which hopefully leads to better field position for our opponents... the opponents plans have worked for perfection in all our 6 games... Tenn seems to be the only team that was not coached to take advantage of our problems in execution...

We have given up 8 out of 10 drives in goal to goal situations, just as bad or worst of the 6 worst teams in "scoring allowed by the pass."

So that is why I believe the Defensive stats are skewed... now I don't believe this is the main problem with this team, because our scoring O needs to be addressed 1st...
