Top Pick Blessing, Burden for Dolphins

I don't buy it. We can sign our pick before the draft like Houston did or we can drag it out like the Raiders did. Its our chioce and I hope if we stay at number one then we have him signed before we actually pick him , that would show me we had a responsible FO now.

I would certainly support that BUT, it would remove all chance for a trade down. Personally, I think we should get in touch with more than just one.. perhaps go to Dorsey and Long's agent and say "let's make a deal" tell them up front that the more co operative player get's the nod, we want him signed and in camp immediately, and will defer to the player that allows that.

Thats along the lines I was thinking about Marty. I would love to trade down , especially if we could get Otah or Clady but it really doesnt look good. Teams might move up to get a QB but I just dont see a RB or DL getting the attention.

Its more important to me to get our pick in TC on day one than to eek out another 3rd rounder and trade down. If I cant get a minimum of a 2nd then I want our guy in camp on day one.

Trading down would be nice but next to impossible. Settling a deal shortly before the draft would save a lot of time and allow who ever we sign at number one time to practice and play for our team next year.

I actually think in todays NFL that is the right way to work the 1st overall. I think that is mainly what Houston did with Bush and Williams i think. I am sure IF Williams would have not signed before the draft Bush would have been the selection

That might not nessisarily be true. The year the Falcons took Vick they made the trade for the first overall pick the day before the draft. There certainly is no reason we couldnt do that.

But I think the NFL HAS TO CHANGE the draft in terms of the money these players are recieving. The NBA has done this the right way and put a fixed amount of money each player is entitled to. They did this so if a player turns out to be a bust it wont effect them financially for as long as it can in the NFL. Make these Rookies prove themselves before they get big pay days.

That is EXACTLY what I would be doing...Long or Dorsey...>Dorsey or Long? I would almost let their prospective agents decide who I picked...

What do we think about actually drafting McFadden, then trading him to Dallas for their two first rounders and their second?

you are on the right page but that isnt near enough for a #1 overall pick points wise. we want that and fasano, spears, carpenter, etc.. and possibly even more draft picks. if we do it, we better do it right.

and what will you do when dalass laughs at us.. says.. "oh NO, you misunderstood us, we said we would give you ONE 1st round pick.. so sorry"...leaving us with someone we don't need nor can afford?

I guess I'm of the opinion that we say screw the value chart...I don't really like the idea of our first pick coming in the 20's, but if we could move down a couple of picks and pick up another 2nd rounder...I'd be all for it, value chart be damned...save some money...still probably get the guy we want...and pick up another long term starter with the 33rd, 34th or 35th pick...whoever we can make a deal with...just makes sense to me.

Bill Parcells is stuck.

And it's likely that no one in the NFL will be daring enough to help him out of his jam.
Don't be surprised if rumors start floating about just before the draft that "The Miami Dolphins are rumored to have begun negotiations with both Matt Ryand, McFadden and Jake Long to determine which one would be "most signable" by draft day". Then we'll see just how cool the other GMs play their hands.
