Almost everyone on here wants us to have a top 3/5 draft pick. Where are you guys finding the money to sign a top 5 draft pick you are looking at leat 18mil guaranteed + salary. We do not want a top pick. We should have traded our 1st & booker for Randy oakland 2007 2nd, 4th, and 2008 5th round

yuck

I agree with one thing- we don't need to waste top draft $ on a skill position player. I think we need multiple 2nd to mid-round picks to help build the fundamental positions.

Dude WOOW!!! Lets say we finish with the top 3 pick that means what draft a 5th rounder to the top 3 pick!!

Id trade down if the options are right but woow !!

We are in need of a playmaker thats why miami will get a top pick in the draft

And that trade is awful!! Moss We can get CJ the enxt Moss And is younger

Are you saying you can't get quality picks with a 2nd, 4th and a 2008 5thrd pick. And Yes I am saying at this point the dolphins don't need to invest the money in a top 3 or 5 pick.

Miami is one of those markets where money ain't a problem. Thought I'd enlighten you on that one.

You can pay a rookie a "minimum" salary the first few years and spread his "guaranteed" money through 6 years.

Then, you can also make some of his guaranteed money, a roster bonus that kicks in the following year...as well as not make his contract guaranteed until the following season.

This is what we did with Brown and Allen, as well as Mcmichael when we re-signed him.:cooldude:

Also "similiar" to what Dallas did with TO and NO did with Brees.

The rookie salary cap is not an "addition" to the team salary cap.

It is a portion of the team's salary cap designated for your rookies.

So if our cap space is $10mil under the cap, and the rookie cap is say $4mil...then we really have something like $6mil of cap space to do what we want in free agency...unless we negociate a cap friendly contract the first years of the rookies, which then you may clear up a "little" more space to dabble in free agency.

Also, most teams like to keep $1 to 2 mil clear for injury insurance throughout the year, if a player that gets cut during the season becomes available, or you sign a player off the practice squad.

So really...a team with $10mil under the cap "really" has $4 to 5mil of cap space for free agents.

Also, we should have some money to dabble in free agency this year due to quite a few of our players becoming free agents and coming off our books:

Holiday, Bowens, Tillman, Traylor, Bell(who we should re-sign), Barnes(who we should re-sign), Welker(might re-sign), MacIntosh(might re-sign), Zgonina, Jackson, and Lehan.

Then there are a few that we can sign to minimum contracts due to Exclusive Rights like Vickerson, Mitchell, and Vick.

We can also cut Booker and free up $4mil.

Not that we will...but we can clear up $3mil by trading Thomas.

As well, as clear up another $1mil by re-structuring or cutting James.

I didnt realize that people on this site would rather have young unproven talent as oppsed to veteran high priced talent. Meaning the players that have already have proven themselves in the league
