Top Players available in next years draft....

fixing a bad offensive line requires 5 spots/players to fix one general problem. Fixing the QB/RB spot requires one spot/player to fix one general problem. Big lineman are important, but tell me a team who drafted one that high and wasn't there the following year drafting another player that high!!

Oh, and FA history shows that looking for big help in FA is bogus and doesn't work. I'm ready to switch to the more healthy plan of building through the draft with coaches who know WTF they are doing.

BPA makes sense anywhere in the draft except maybe inside the top 10.

I haven't ever really seen teams have trouble trading out of the top 10, though. If BPA is a CB and the team feels it is so stacked it makes no sense, that is when it's time to trade down.

I'd Take Winston too, but from what Ive heard, he wont be coming out after this season. Winston has all the tools to be one of the best O-Lineman at the U. Rolle would be nice, then we could rid of Madison's contract and use that money to upgrade the offense.

The quickest way to fix the O-line is to land a couple quality free agents. Unless there is a clear cut STUD available at the time we pick in the draft that we can not pass on, we need to trade the pick and get some extra early picks. This team can use them.

Madison is here for the long haul. It COSTS the team cap space to cut or trade him.

Surtain certainly could be traded for picks if the team feels Rolle is BPA, though...

How do we get rid of Madisons contract?

we trade him, we take a cap hit. Madison said he would take a paycut and a nickelback role here. He wants to retire here. Have you seen his house? I would want to retire here also!

It doesn't make sense when you have top 5 pick.
For Example if the best player available is a CB.
Best player available makes sense in the middle rounds.
There is no way we draft a CB. We have 4 now!!!!!! How many CB's can one team have?

Some possible draft choice ideas

Assuming we stay on our present path and are 1-15, 4-12, etc at the end of the year and get a Top 10 pick, here are some ideas:

QB - Matt Leinart, USC; UCONN's QB (don't remember his name.); Purdue's QB (is he a senior?)

RB - Cedric Benson, Texas; Cadiallac Williams or Ronnie Brown, Auburn; Kay Jay Harris, West Virginia (senior? junior?); Wali Lundy, Virginia; Fason, Florida

OL - Winston, but I doubt he comes out.

WR - (do we need this position, I doubt it) Braylon Edwards, Michigan comes to mind.

DE - David Pollack, Georgia; Marcus Spears, LSU;

LB - #11 from Texas (name?)

Those are some I know off the top of my head...anything that helps us right away though, would be just fine with me, even if its a PUNTER!!!

Surtain's contract is up after this year. Unless we franchise tag him.......he's gone! Or unless we spend every dime to resign him and then have no money to improve the offense.

With Poole, Madison, and Howard.........Surtain is gone!

Lets look at the Pats they year they won the SB in 2001......

Bryan Cox, Auntwan Smith, David Patten, Larry Izzo, Terrell Buckley, Otis Smith, etc. They built that team in free agency. They had no superstars (aside from Brady) and threw a bunch of old guys they picked up in FA around him.

It doesn't matter WHICH appraoch you take (draft or FA) but you have to pick one and stick to it. You can't try and do both.

Man, Rolle is what we need in the secondary, if we got a few picks for Surtain. Let's just get a first and a few later round picks. Surtain is my favorite player, but to give him a 15 million dollar signing bonus at 30 is the wrong thing to do, and that's what he will want. I know we have plenty of corners, but Rolle is just one of those all around playmakers, ala Shawn Taylor. The guy hits like a safety, covers like a corner, and is just all over the field. he was a corner, but plays like a linebacker, hence the depth chart change for corner to DB. We need to worry about future, and worry about getting players that will pan out, not that we hope. Vernon Carey is a great example.

Surtain is signed through 2005. If he leaves, it will be either due to an unfortunate injury/retirement or likely due to a trade.

Will Chris Leak be available for the draft ?

Trade. Figure we can get a 1st for surtain and a 1st for rickys rights next year.

We could have a very active 1st round comin up........ wonder how the FO will screw it up and draft 3 busts.
