Oh and Purdue's QB is Orton.... his ranking will climb. Purdues going to win the big 10 this year and he will get a lot of attention come bowl time.
 
Drafting Winston would not be a smart move. We have Carey at RT who will be good in the future and McIntosh should be fine at LT. We need to draft a premier QB or RB. We need both. Our offensive line is crap, but come next year the biggest problems will be at C and RG, and you just don't address that stuff in the first round, espicially when you have a top pick (which I think we will have). We need to get a guy like Leinart, Walter, Benson, or Cadillac Williams.

Philter's wishlist:

Surtain will be in his contract year next year, expect us to make a move with him. We cant afford to keep him and the emergence of Will Poole will be Surtain's exit.

Figure trade Surtain to a team in desperate need for a shutdown CB (thats 25 teams in the NFL) Gonna get a 1st round pick for him and maybe a latter round pick.

Ricky WILL want to come back next year. Hes broke. Trade his rights to whoever gives us a 1st and the highest additional pick.

See if you can get a late round pick for Wade Smith in a trade.

We will go 3-13 and have a top 10 pick.

Either trade down with the top 10 pick to get a latter (10-15) pick and an additional pick.

Draft the best CB available (to be our Dime CB), best OL available, and best DT available in the first round. If Orton is available, take him in the 2nd round. Draft for depth at OL, DL, S, LB, and WR in the latter rounds.

Therefore we get rid of Ricky's burden, trade Surtain to free up money to sign a FA RB in the offseason, draft a QB that might turn into your starter in acouple years, sign AND draft OL help, and keep the team young on defense.

Sign a RB from FA in the offseason.... we need a proven guy, not a mediocre one. Sign a FA OLman in the offseason again. Give Carey another year to see if he can crack the starting lineup.

Get rid of Konrad OR Booker. We cant afford to keep them both and have one guy sitting on the bench. This decision is dependent on which RB we sign. If we sign James, Konrad is gone b/c James doesnt need a FB and is a great blocking RB.

Get rid of Seau, Knight, and Freeman. Trade Freeman for a draft pick, he said he wants a trade and LJ isnt going to help. Dont resign Minor and let Gordon be our backup RB.
 
I say we draft a RB. I know our track record is not all that good but we also have not tried all that many times. Additionally we have not had a good record drafting O line or QBs (the obvious excluded) either.
Question though:
If we do go after a RB do you draft
Benson AKA "lil ricky"? I dont think I want a RB from Texas who is friends with you know who and is deemed little ricky. He may have an even "littler" span in the NFL.
OR
Cadillac Williams. We may have a new Williams in the backfield. That does not sit real well with me either. I vote Williams but begrudgingly.
What do you guys think about Reyes (syracuse) or Sproule (Kan st)??

I dont think Sproles really projects as a feature back in the NFL...the guy has some crazy skills, but I dont think he has the size to handle a consistent pouding by defenses. He'll be a great 3rd down back, but starter....no.

As far as who to draft with a top 10 pick...I like the idea of trading Surtain for a 1st and a lower round pick, trading Ricky's rights, if we have them, for a 1st, and drafting Winston, Lineart/Orton, and possibly Antrel Rolle (I know we're loaded at corner, but this guy is awesome...big, strong, fast, and a playmaker). If we got him, we could move Howard to FS, start Poole, and use Rolle as the nickel....then once Madison retires, we'll still have a dominant pair of CBs (which our man-coverage heavy defense needs to be successful).

I agree, but would you take him 1st overall? No way..You have to trade down for him.
 
Winston is great, but if he's taken, Alex Barron is pretty good too.
He should be available in the teens.
 
Ok now heres my wish list for next year
1. FIRE THE PORNSTACHE!!!!!
2. Trade Surtain for a 1st(if we get a late pick great but I am happy with the 1st)
3.Trade Ricky's rights if he comes back for a 2nd this year and conditional pick next year.( I dont think we will get a first for him this year, but we could swing a conditional 2nd for next year that becomes a 1st at 1400 yards)
4. Trade Booker for a 2nd( we really dont need him and with no cap hit he is the obvious choice)
5. If we are sitting at No. 1 TRADE DOWN!!! Trade down 10-12 spots for a 2nd this year and a first next year. Then take top RB on the board, Orton, or Rolle.
6.With the 1st from Surtain depending on where it is trade down again to the end of the round 1 adding another 3rd, and draft Elton Brown to play RG.
7. With the first 2nd(from trading down) go BPA or draft the best DT on the board.
8. With the remaining 2nd draft a WR to replace Booker.
Then you still have two thirds, a 4th, 6th , and 7th. Plus two possibly three firsts next year(depending on Ricky's production)

Those are the three players I am targeting for this team... Ronnie Brown, Cadillacs back up, is a ALL SEC player.. He may be a steal as well

BUT

If reports are true and Miami does trade for Larry Johnson, that will elimnate RB IMO...

DJ Johnson is the logical pick, I dont think Orton is a franchise QB, thats just my opinion..

If we somehow get 3 1st rounders, I think that DJ Johnson.. Rolle.. and Alex Barron would be three great pick ups..
