Here is my first shot at a mock draft for the year..

1. Oakland- JaMarcus Russell,QB- Oakland has a tough choice at the top but they can't resist JR's combination of size and power as well as great potential.

2. Detroit- Joe Thomas, OT- With their poor history of drafting skill position players, I can not see them going that way again. Thomas will solidify their line and take a little pressure off of their struggling offense.

3. Cleveland- Adrian Peterson, RB- I'm just not buying all of this 'Brady Quinn' talk all of a sudden. The Browns have obviously been trying to get a solid running game since Romeo came in and Peterson is irrestible given the circumstances.

4. Tampa Bay- Calvin Johnson, WR- Johnson at 4 is an absolute steal. The Bucs are getting the best player in the draft without having to move up. He will be an upgrade to the aging Joey Galloway and the underachieving Michael Clayton.

5. Arizona- Gaines Adams, DE- The Cards would love for Joe Thomas to be here but no dice. They are able to solidify their anemic pass rush with Adams. He should take the pressure off of Bertrand Berry as well as the secondary by getting to the QB.

6. Washington- Alan Branch, DT- The Redskins are in a tough position since they have a glaring need at both DE and DT. With Jamaal Anderson sitting there, the 'skins eventually take Branch since there is even less talent at the DT spot and is rapidly aging.

7. Minnesota- Jamaal Anderson, DE- The Vikings would love for CJ to be here since there isn't another WR to take this early. Instead of making another Troy Williamson pick, the Vikings stay with the sure bet (and need) and pick Anderson to bolster the DE. We know they can stop the run and now they are on their way to building a pass rush.

8. Houston- Brady Quinn, QB- We've been hearing about how David Carr is on the way out and this pick is the aftermath. Kubiak now has a QB to groom for his system and Quinn will be starting within 2 years. A win-win.

9. Miami- Ted Ginn Jr., WR- Our beloved fins finally acquire some offense. With us losing Welker and bolstering our D, Ginn is just what the doctor ordered. He can handle kick returning duties as well as give us the big play threat.

10. Atlanta- Laron Landry, DB- Lawyer Milloy is getting old and DeAngelo Hall needs some help. Landry will provide a presence in the secondary and limit the big plays that the Falcons are infamous for giving up.

11. San Francisco- Leon Hall, CB- The 49ers have a bunch of needs such as DE and DT, along with CB. They at least have players with potential at those positions while Walt Harris is 33 and Shawntae Spencer needs a running mate.

12. Buffalo- Amobe Okoye, DT- The Bills consider Levi Jones here but since they already splurged in free agency on the O-Line, the Bills go with Okoye. He is a high energy player like their DE rotation and will be a nice compliment. Don't rule out a reach for Marshawn Lynch here.

13. St. Louis- Adam Carriker, DE/DT- The Rams have the offensive firepower but the D is lacking. Carriker's versatility will help since they need multiple positions and Linehan is still figuring out his defensive identity.

14. Carolina- Reggie Nelson, DB- Their D is slowly becoming an issue. With Peppers giving the only reliable input, the Panthers take Nelson. His speed with keep most plays in front of him, playing towards Carolina's strength. MLB is also a need but no one worth selecting at this point.

15. Pittsburgh- Lawrence Timmons, LB- With Tomlin is town, the D's identity is changing. Porter is on the way out so they need a speedy LB who can play the 4-3. Timmons can also put his hand down and rush if needed but his athleticism is what will make Tomlin drool.

16. Green Bay- Marshawn Lynch, RB- This is one of the easiest picks to make in the draft. Their draft position along with their glaring need making Lynch a lock to be heading up to Lambeau.

17. Jacksonville- Jarvis Moss, DE/LB- Moss will be used as a DE in this scheme. He is athletic enough to play 3-4 OLB but the Jags need him at the end spot. With the two monsters inside, the Jags are in the same position that Minnesota is in on the D-Line.

18. Cincinnati- Chris Houston, CB- Marvin Lewis will be sure to take character issues into consideration this year. Houston has no red flags and will provide a nice pair in the defensive backfield with last years first rounder, Jonathan Joseph. TE is also a consideration here but the offense can get by without it, and the D desperately needs help.

19. Tennessee- Dwayne Jarrett, WR- Now that Vince Young is the face of the franchise, he needs some weapons. Brandon Jones has potential but theres not much after that. In this years solid WR crop, Jarrett gets the nod due to his ties with OC Norm Chow.

20. NY Giants- Darrelle Revis, CB- Sam Madison is old and on the decline and Corey Webster is better as a nickel back. Revis will be a nice addition, especially after answering the questions on his speed. WR is also a big need here but with the deep class, a good one can be landed later on day one.

21. Denver- Levi Brown, OT- It always seems like Denver is in the position to snag value later on in the draft. Brown has been dropping after a mediocre combine. With George Foster shipped off to Detroit, Brown will be a nice replacement.

22. Dallas- Justin Blalock, OL- America's team needs some help on the O-Line. Marco Rivera is old and declining while Marc Colombo is on the way out. Blalock makes sense here due to his versatility to play both OG and OT.

23. Kansas City- Dwayne Bowe, WR- Kansas City's glaring lack of WR talent was exposed last year against the Colts. Bowe is a big physical reciever who can go and fight for the ball. His style fits in nicely to their style and might allow Samie Parker to be a compliment.

24. New England- Patrick Willis, ILB- Willis is a hard nosed, instinctive player, which is just what the Pats are looking for. His ability to play the MLB slot will allow them to get rid of Tedy Bruschi and Eric Alexander a year early, rather than a year late.

25. NY Jets- Charles Johnson, DE- Johnson fills both need and value. Their ends now are average at best now that Abraham is gone and Johnson can play in both the 3-4 and the 4-3.

26. Philadelphia- Paul Posluszny, LB- Poz fits the mold of Philadelphia perfectly. Playing at PSU, he will garner support from the entire state with his instincts and intensity. Their OLB corps are among the weakest in the league and Poz will be an instant starter.

27. New Orleans- Aaron Ross, CB- The Saints defensive backfield has terrible last year, putting it nicely. Fred Thomas was a burn waiting to happen. Ross is athletic and composed enough to step in right away and make a contribution.

28. New England- Joe Staley, OT- Staley has been rising up the draft boards the last few weeks. New England has been known to be interested and it is only right that the Pats take a player that we had on our radar.

29. Baltimore- Ben Grubbs, OG- Baltimore cut Edwin Mulitalo earlier this month. Grubbs is a nice replacement, although the Ravens were hoping that one of the OTs would fall. The OLB void left by Adalius Thomas is a concern but the front office is known for not reaching in the draft.

30. San Diego- Robert Meachum, WR- I don't know who needed a WR more... the Chargers or the Chiefs. Luckily, both of em satisfy their need. Meachum's speed will add an element to the San Diego passing game that they have lacked for quite some time.

31. Chicago- Greg Olsen, TE- There was alot of talk of Olsen moving up in the draft but I think that'd be tough to do since not many teams have such a need for a TE. Chicago, on the other hand, are elated to see him still available. Desmond Clark was solid this year but he has reached his potential and is already receding.

32. Indianapolis- Justin Harrell, DT- We all know the struggles that the Colts have stopping the run. Harrell has the talent to make a strong impact on a weak D-line. Injuries are a concern but the Colts assess the reward to be much greater than the risk.

Agreed, but yet another DB??? I love the kid, but I'd rather Miami trade out of the 9.

Any thoughts, or constructive criticism?

It looks pretty good, but there's only a couple of issues I have. Mainly with Detroit and Clevelands picks. I don't think Quinn gets past either of them (although I am hoping he does). The Joe Thomas and Adrian Peterson picks were good projections before the Free Agency whirlwind started. Now Detroit signed a couple of OTs, so Joe Thomas isn't as important anymore, and Cleveland signed Jamal Lewis so Peterson isn't as inmportant. Both took care or a glaring need in FA so they can turn back to the QB focus now, whereas before it may not have been AS important as OT or RB respectively.

That being said, I believe the Browns COULD pass on Quinn, given the fact that Lewis is only a 1 year sign, but on the other hand all the recent talk has been that the Browns' upper management is pressing for them to draft a QB.

We also know that Detroit is looking to trade down, so Quinn must not be as high a priority to them if they are willing to pass on them, but if they can't find a partner you can bet Quinn looks to be a great pick for them at #2 (who else do they need that deserves to go that high?).

However, SHOULD Quinn make it past them like your mock suggest then I suggest a trade, one that I have been advocating for almost a week now. We trade our #9 and #60 (Pats' 2nd rounder) to the Redskins for their #6 and we take Brady before he gets to the Vikes or the Texans. I still don't think the Vikes would take him since they just took Jackson in round 2 last year and I don't think they've seen enough to give up on him yet and invest in a 1st round QB when they have other needs. But Houston would almost definately take him if he fell, as you said, Carr is all but gone already.

If Quinn makes it past Detroit and Cleveland, we should easily be able to nab him at #6 (assuming the Redskins go for the trade, which they should since our 2 picks are worth 50 more points then their one) because the Bucs don't need him and the Cards DEFINATELY don't need him. Then we would FINALLY have our first franchise-worthy QB since Dan Marino and we would basically only have given up a late 2nd round pick that we didn't even have until 2 weeks ago anyway. We'd still have our early 2nd round pick to grab someone like center Ryan Kalil from USC, or another o-lineman or a WR or DB, depending on the value of the guys available at #40.

Not bad T-2. I also will be disappointed if we take Ginn at the 9. If we can trade down, pick up another first day pick and still get him then fine.

Otherwise, nice mock with some good thoughtfull insight:wink:

Just FYI: I purposely didnt make any trades. Its the supposed 'unwritten rule' of doing a mock draft, so I stayed away from it.

As for Agent51, really nice post. Although I didn't make any trades, I don't see Miami moving up. Given Mueller's history, I find it hard to believe that he would be great about getting picks and then trade them away. If anything, I see him moving back to take advantage of this deep, deep draft class.

As for the Detroit/Cleveland situation, I believe that the Lions (more specifically Matt Millen) are not in the position to reach on someone. They need a sure fire starter that will make an impact for the next 8 years or so. Quinn, as much as he is hyped up, is not a sure thing. Cleveland, on the other hand, would benefit more from AP. With their playing style, AP will make more of an impact and like you mentioned, Jamal Lewis is on a one year deal. I think that speaks volumes. I have no proof or anything to back it up, but I have a gut feeling that Cleveland will reach on Troy Smith in the 3rd.

Well now it makes a lot of sense when you explain it liek that. I just didn't know if you had this thing made before all of the FA signings happened and just posted it now, or if you had a different train of thought in still havin them take those two guys. Like I said before though, nice mock.
