Trade Down, Even Without Value?

I've seen more times than not, players selected from a trade-down, out of the league in 2 years, whereas the player in the trade-up making some contribution...to me, trade downs are not as valuable as some might think, some times a trade-up will net you a 10 year starter, and the picks you lost end up well forgotten.

Miami has not come out ahead in trade downs in the past....if I'm picking and there is an elite playmaker there...I draft him.

Hickey is very experienced in the player evaluation part of the GM role but I don't know how he will go horse trading draft picks. I would expect someone without much experience to be risk averse and reluctant to make a mistake. As a new GM, some of the experienced GMs who enjoy the trading may try to exploit his inexperience by only offering very low offers to see how desperate he is in making a deal.
Interesting to note that Ireland progressively became more confident in moving up and down trading draft picks, but I can't recall him doing much trading in his early days in Miami.
