What pick/who would you be willing to give up for Alex Smith? It could happen, especially simce the Chiefs drafted Mahomes with #10 overall pick....Still hoping RT isnt done for the year but at this point he may as well get the damn surgery and be done with it...but then what happens next year with a healthy RT and Alex Smith...hmmm

On Thursday morning, reports indicated that Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill was carted off during training camp after having an “awkward fall” wrote Jeff Darlington of ESPN. How does Tannehill getting injured relate to the Kansas City Chiefs, you ask? Well, that one is simple…

The Chiefs might have seemed pretty confident in sending Alex Smith into battle as their starting quarterback for 2017, but with Tannehill’s injury, the speculation of Smith not being in Kansas City anymore quickly began.

This is an interesting topic because I never would have thought that Alex Smith would be an option to be traded right now, but this could actually make sense. For one, the Chiefs made it pretty clear that they’re ready to move on from Smith eventually by trading up to draft Patrick Mahomes in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Smith is likely a goner after this season. The only way he’ll stay in Kansas City after 2017 is either if Mahomes really doesn’t look ready or if Smith leads the Chiefs to a Super Bowl title this season. I would gladly take Option B.

On the other hand, trading Alex Smith away could be a stupid idea. The point of drafting Mahomes was to let him sit and learn in year one behind Smith and company. It wouldn’t be bright to throw the rookie into the deep end of the pool at such a young age, especially when the intent was to groom him.

Oh, and don’t even suggest starting Tyler Bray instead. Tyler Bray is not the answer.
Any time there is an injury to a quarterback it’s big news, but with a team like Miami (who made it to the playoffs last year) potentially needing a quarterback, it becomes an even bigger story. Could the Dolphins finally be the team to ink Colin Kaepernick to a deal or will they roll with Matt Moore instead?

It’s worth noting that the Kansas City Chiefs host the Dolphins at Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas Eve this season. It’ll be the second to last game of the year and could very well be a meaningful game as far as the playoffs go. Could that be another reason not to trade Smith away?

At the end of the day, I doubt the Chiefs part ways with Alex Smith mainly because it’d be a bit of a middle finger to the fans, who are expecting to compete this year. If Smith were sent to another team, the quarterback situation in Kansas City would go from good to bad.

What do you think, Chiefs Kingdom? Do you think the team should entertain sending Alex Smith to Miami?

Kap is better then Alex ask Harbaugh

No. Just ... no.

Complete waste of picks. The difference in where this team and franchise would be with Alex Smith versus where it would be without Alex Smith is small. Even if he can be a one-year upgrade over Matt Moore, which is highly debatable given the learning curve Gase's offense has, he would be a huge salary cap anchor around our necks. Then, next year when Tannehill comes back, and this assumes Tannehill actually misses the entire season otherwise there is zero reason to get acquire Smith, we will have a huge chunk of our salary cap, larger than Suh possibly, doing exactly NOTHING. And it doesn't matter whether that's Tannehill or, far more likely, Smith.

This is the groundbreaking equation for failsauce. Eureka .... you've fundamentally proven failsauce exists ... congrats.

Smith isn't a terrible QB, but he's not a good QB. We are certainly NOT getting Alex Smith.

I like Alex Smith. He has come a long way with his pocket presence and his ability to improvise.

But the the cost, both salary and draft picks, make this a non conversation.

I think we are closer to win now than not personally. Are we waiting for Suh and R. Jones to retire or Jills and jets to get better? I had visions (poor eyesight) of us challenging the Pats this year or at worse getting the WC again but inflicting some damage. Maybe I'm an idiot but I would love Alex Smith for a fair cost, not a desperation reach but fair cost.

The only qb I would entertain trading for would be McCarron... maybe better than moore, and is a young back up to work with for the future when Tannehill returns

The Chiefs, while talented, are trying to do a silent rebuild while still remaining relevant as a playoff team. I think the Chiefs will actually regress this year and become a fringe playoff team. Their window was 2014-2016 and Andy Reid can't run his full playbook with Smith at QB. He just doesn't have the arm to scare anyone. Mahomes has no experience but there's no limit to his arm. It's still unknown if Mahomes was Reid's pick or if he was pushed by their old GM. Smith could very well wind up in Miami.

Most intelligent post I've seen around here in days. If I was considering trading for a quarterback that's the guy.

Only problem is that the Bengals asking price is a little high, and they hold all the leverage. Especially over a team like Miami who they know are in desperation.

Miami doesn't have any room to negotiate. Either give up what they're asking price is or move along. Bengals wouldn't even listen to any chump offer from the Dolphins.

There are some other young QBs I'd make some calls about, Paxton Lynch, Davis Webb
