Matt Roth is a terrific football player, he's very aggressive gets forced fumbles and can blitz very well.
But I think he's an undersized DE that doesn't fit well into our system. He has made alot of progress transitioning into a OLB. That said, I'd prefer us going a different direction in the Linebacking Unit next year.
With his knowledge and experience at OLB and DE with the dolphins, I think we could get a 3rd and 6th round pick for him, to a team that plays 4-3 or Cover 2, and he'd be a great DE/OLB blitzer...

Maybe we keep him for competetion next year, he could turn out great with another year of experience.

I ain't hatin on Roth or anything, but i think it's a very big position of need come free agency and the draft.

I think you sign him to a 1-year deal to see how he progresses in his 2nd year as an OLB. He might just have a breakout season because he'll finally be fully adjusted to being an OLB.

you guys really think we would get a 3rd for Roth? No, sorry but thats not going to happen. I agree with PhinFan, you sign him to a 1 yr or more and see how he does. Remember he worked in the offseason to play DE, I'm thinking he drops some weight and gets a little quicker this offseason. We keep looking for a star but worse case scenario, he is a very solid backup.

I doubt we would get anything more than a 5th at best. He's not that valuable and trades are rare in the NFL.

not on draft day, player for player trades rarely happen but we need draft picks.
we could get a 3rd for roth, he was a value 2nd rounder, and he's played that well...

He's really vigorous, you can't be mad with him on your roster, great player..

Not a knock on Roth, but there's no way we'd get a 3rd for him. I agree, we ought to sign him to a short contract and see how he performs. So far I think he's transitioning well and a solid, if not stellar, player for us.

Even if we could get a 3rd for him, odd's are we won't get a better player then him in the 3rd round.

He does a very, very, good job at stopping the run on his side, and as a LOLB that's his # 1 job. He does just as good of a job at stopping the run as JP does rushing the passer.

We have to many other needs, to start trying to replace very good starters, in hopes of landing a super star.

for his role Roth is perfect... he plays OLB on running downs, and then we bring in a more nimble OLB for passing downs...

hes part of the reason our run Defense has been better this year... that much beef at the OLB spot helps contain the run... hes a liability in pass coverage, and his pass rush skills from the OLB spot aren't as good as we'd like, but his ability to play the run from that spot really helps us on 1st and 2nd downs...

Sign Suggs, let Crowder walk and move Roth inside. With his strength he could certainly collapse the pocket.

That makes no sense, Roth was a DE in the 4-3 and can play OLB in the 3-4. Having him play inside makes him learn a position that he has never seen time at. Not smart football. Resign Crowder, he is developing into a decent ILB. BUILD THROUGH THE DRAFT!!!!!!!!!!
