Would it be worth it to trade next years first round pick for a QB like Rivers..Im not saying do it..Im saying would it be worth it. Alot of teams have to figure it will be a high #. Rivers IMO is as good as Leinhart..if not better with some experience under his belt.

it would be stupid to trade our first rd pick for Rivers. we are going to have a bad season this year, and we will have a low pick agian. there are way more beter QB's in next years draft.

I'm a big Rivers fan..but I am also tired of trading away draft picks. As if they grew on trees.

No. If you think so, then you haven't learned a thing about trading draft picks for players. We lost a second and a third round pick because we gambled and dealt them for developmental players. I'd hate to see the fan reaction if Miami traded a 1st for Rivers and he didn't immediately set the NFL on fire.

I've been saying it every offseason since 1998. Miami will get their next quarterback when and only when they finally invest a high draft pick into a quarterback. You better hope someone emerges this year, because I'm not too impressed with what will be coming out in 2005.

They wont trade any picks. I think Saban and Mueller will have their scouting department in full force this upcoming season looking at QBs.

Exactly..so how long will we have to wait. I use Rivers as an example because IMO..I think he is much better than what is coming out..plus he's still very young. Green Bay didnt draft Farvre...they traded for him.

The other reason I ask is this. Seeing how top draft picks price appreciates every year...wouldnt it be less expensive to trade for a guy like Rivers?

And also...a high draft pick at QB could turn into...Leaf? I feel reasonable comfortable that Rivers will not end up like that.

I think you are overreacting to the preseason. We will get a QB next year But i doubt we can be anyworse then last year, to get a top 5 pick.

As others mentioned I don't believe we can pay a top qb unless we drop good men! Rivers if traded I think would command top dollar also! Is Rivers contract up at the end of 06 or 07 anyone know?

To clarify..Im not suggesting that we do this trade...Im asking your opinions on a scenario like this.

well rivers has one thing goin for him. he's already signed. yall would really throw a fit around here if leinart held out. and there's no gurantee that we would even get leinart. i don't think we're gonna be that bad. i'm not a big rivers fan though. or leinart for that matter. both would get killed behind our line. neither can move. i'd actually prefer somebody like omar jacobs or reggie mcneil. i wouldn't trade the pick.

The Chargers didn't think Leaf would be a flop.

Since when did trading away draft picks become so popular? Oh yeah, Wanny and Spielman. Well, 'nuff said. Teams that win BUILD through the draft and TWEAK during free agency. I dont want to see us trading anymore draft picks.

Almost every player you draft is developmental, especially QB's. I would feel much more comfortable with hillip Rivers then most of the QB's coming out next year. Its not like this guy is a former 4th round pick. He was picked in the top 5. Hes much less of a risk then a straight our rookie.

Right now I could see somewhere between a 2nd rounder - 4th rounder for either volek or kitna, maybe even maddox. The hardest may be volek because tennesee wants him for when McNair finally retires. But the other two showed they are decent starters that just got upstaged by rookies.

Rivers so far hasnt played anything signifigant to take a risk of a high draft pick next year for. For all we know it could be another wasted high pick for a QB.

Also like to note now that the 2nd rounder spent on feeley could have been used on kyle orton.

The batch of QB's coming out next year seem ALOT better than the batch this year. So thats a bonus for us. I agree that we must take a chance on a high first rd pick or even trade up to get the best available. No more messing around.
