Trade next years first rounder?

To me it depends on a few things.

#2 : Is San Diego only going to accept a first rounder? You remember how much they got from the Giants for Manning so, are they going to try to get the same type of deal they got from the Giants?
SD has less leverage with Brees, than with Rivers. Since they will have to franchise Brees & he will eat up over 11 million of their cap.

#3 : If we did trade for Rivers or Brees what would happen with their contracts? Brees is definitely going to want a lot of money and Rivers may even want a new contract being that he's going to be a starter. Both of them would want a lot of guaranteed money.
Rivers already has a starters contract. He will be in year 3 of his deal for the No. 4 pick of the draft.

Brees is unsigned for next year, so trading for him would mean a new contract.

T.O. had a starters contract too. Now a days agents will use any excuse in the book to renegotiate a contract and get more guaranteed money. That's why it wouldn't surprise me, if Rivers is traded, to see his agent try to get more money because of a trade.

Nah I wouldn't trade a 1st.

But I would send one of our QB'S, one of our WR'S and a pick to Chicago for Orton =O)

I love the idea of sending next years 1st to SD for Rivers, for a few reasons...

I think Rivers is better then any QB coming out in next years draft.

Using a 1st on Rivers is essentially the same as drafting a rookie with our 1st; He'll have the exact same wear and tear as a rookie (none), but he'll have two years of learning in the NFL and gaining experience.

Rivers already has a contract, so no fears of a holdout, and his contract will be cheaper then what a high 2006 draft pick will demand.

Pretty simple common sense stuff right there. I'd love to have Rivers join the team. Brees is a different story, I would not trade our draft picks away for him. My god, think about how much the Chargers have benefited from the whole Rivers thing. They absolutely worked over the Giants and got tons of draft picks out of them, and now when they get rid of him they'll get at LEAST a 1st, and probably more.

for those who are crying about "giving up picks," please explain how trading a #1 pick for rivers is any different than using it to draft a QB in round one.
