I was thinking...

Previously I thought the only way we would select McFadden was if we couldn't trade the pick and then"hijacked" him and later trade him to a team that wanted him. The Dolphins won't do this now though because the risk of having to keep him is too high. But...

Not with Matt Ryan. The Dolphins like him and wouldn't mind having him. If we select him and then Oakland takes McFadden (they would have to win coin flip with the Falcons), it would put Atlanta in a REALLY difficult spot. They NEED a QB bad or at least a really sexy pick like McFadden. We could then contact them and tell them to select Dorsey or Chris Long, and then we can complete the trade. We would probably end up with their 2nd round and either another late round or a future pick. If it all falls through, we hold on to Ryan, which I know a lot of people here don't want but the organization wouldn't mind.

Thoughts?

Let's hope it won't come to this.

Ideally, either McFadden or Ryan's stock will rise to the point where they are a hot enough commodity that at least two teams want them badly enough to trade up. I would be uncomfortable drafting a player we do not 100% want.

I am encouraged regarding a trade down by Ireland indicating he has already received calls about the pick.

I know he is actively shopping but where did you read or hear about him already receiving calls for it? I think he's making that up to drive up the price and interest.

It took me awhile to answer your question as to where I read that Ireland has already received calls about the first pick, but I finally found it.

Unfortunately, I do not think it is accurate.

I read it in a summary of the Ireland NFL Network interview in the following thread:

http://www.dolphinsnation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207294&page=2

After listening to the interview, I did not hear it this way...only that he is open to trading the pick.

Sorry for perpetuating the confusion.

Dorsey nor C Long r on MIA's potential 1st round pick list. MIA's list based on Ireland's priority list would be Matt Ryan or J Long if they stay at #1. Or Brohm or Clady if they move down a few slots. If they were to move down to #22 and #28, then they would probably select out of Brohm, Otah, Baker, Williams, that guy Mayocks been raving about, Kenny Phillips, or Woodson.

I just think MIA will get their NT prior to draft with Sopoaga and Rogers being available.

And you are getting this information from???

I think everyone would love to hear how you have such a keen insight into
what Ireland's plans are! Care to share your facts, or is this just your wishful thinking/ opinion? Please don't throw that old platitude, "I have an inside/ unnamed source" garbage at us, we've been seeing your posts about Miami's "plans" for awhile now, so 'fess up!

i base my views on our main needs QB, NT, OL, LB, DB, TE, and backup DE versus reports, what ireland is saying, what positional players are available versus their worth where we r picking, and what will be available via FA.

Fair enough. So you are going on your perceptions of our needs also. I can honestly appreciate that, I just don't agree with the priority that you have placed on the positions of need, but that's all subject to our differing opinions. Now we can have some friendly discourse on the positions without thinking (or saying) anything to imply that the other has no clue, agreed? I'm looking forward to more debates as we get nearer to the Draft.
