I think our best bet at filling numerous needs (CB, OLB, NT, C, WR) will be trading out of the 1st round. If we can find a trade partner and hopefully land (2) 2nd round picks or a 2nd and 3rd round pick, that would benefit us more in the long run.

Possible trade scenario:

Trade the 25th and Wilford to Clevland for their (2) 2nd round picks.
If they trade Edwards this offseaon, this could be a strong possibility.

That would give us (4) 2nd round picks, #36, #44, #50 and #56. We could fill our needs with some serious talent.

Yeah thats the key, finding a team thats willing to pull the trigger on something like that. I think it is a strong possibility trading our 1st pick could happen. If the players that the FO has targeted are gone trading down would be the next best thing.

I believe trading our 1st rd pick is becoming more and more a reality... I say this because, look at the depth of players we are bringing in to interview, who are on the cusp of the first round and definitely 2nd round players.

The FO believes (my attempt to read their minds), that there is going to be a team that wants to beat their rivals to the punch in getting a talented player.

Ex. Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Tennessee (CB/WR Help) or NY Giants and Philly (WR help)
--- all of these teams are star caliber teams and need some piece to win and are more likely to sacrifice for quality (a few picks) than for quantity (many picks)

So if a trade happens with either team, its more going to look like a 2 and 3 type deal with a late round pick next year. We might even use the recently acquired 8 selection swap with Oak in the fourth round as an incentive to get a third round pick, since it would already be closer to their original 3rd pick. And all we have to do is drop back down in the fourth round.

So the trade looks like this...

1st swap and a 4th swap
for a
1st swap, 2nd, 3rd and 4th swap
----------------------------
Ex. Mia and NY Giants Trade (Parcells ... Coughlin link)
Miami gets the
29th pick (1st Round)
60th pick (2nd Round)
91st pick (3rd Round)

NY Giants get the
25th Pick (1st Rd)
108 Pick (4th Round) --- Oakland swap

*I didnt include the 45pick cause i dont see the Giants giving it up (its to high up in the round) and 100th pick b/c it is a comp pic, and i think i right with saying you can't trade a comp pic.

I love the idea of trading for more picks (especially in the 2nd round), the thing is.... Miami has to find a willing trade partner. The Draft will be interesting, hopefully some top flight talent slips down far enough that will be able to facilitate a trade.

Smoke screen is what I believe we are seeing. I believe we are going to trade up and I am a fan of trading down. Bill P falls in loves with horses and draft picks! How many times I ask any of you has Bill P traded down in the first round and how many times has he traded up?

Carolina wants a 1st round pick, but they only have one 2nd round pick

How about their 3rd and how high is their second or we get another high pick from them the next year? Old Pats trick!

if only it were that easy

Pat Kirwan said he polled GM's and there are supposedly 24 guys with first round grades. it could be dis-information but if we can't trade down we shouldn't be suprised. but then again there are always guys who free fall and there are always "runs" on certain postions that can end up in our favor

Would love that scenario, but with Cleveland in a rebuilding mode, I'm not sure they'd be interested in a 2 picks for one scenario. As for Wilford... I'd guess they'd like that package better without him in it at all.

I'd love to see us trade #25 to Carolina for their 2nd rounder this year and their 1st rounder next year or for their 2nd and 3rd rounders this year and their 2nd next year. How interested they'd be... not sure.
