hey there,

could somebody be so kind as to tell me what another team "trading down to the dolphins" actually means? :) and, what about those "value"-figures picks are worth?

i've been following the fins here in germany for a couple of years, but only since last year is the draft being covered over here (on nasn), so i'm pretty uninformed when it comes to such details, i guess...

thanks!

The way the NFL is set up, annually the draft allows teams to select players from the collegiate levels to add to their teams. The order of the draft is based on reverse Win-Loss record, so the worst team goes first and the Super Bowl winner goes last in order to help the bad teams get better players.

Trading down suggests trading the rights to a specific slot in the draft, say the 6th pick of the 1st round to a team who has a lower pick, such as the Dolphins who have the 9th pick. However, to do so the first team needs to be compensated for giving up a higher value. It's only logical that the higher the pick, the better the pick, because you have first priority over selecting an elite player. Thus, the Dolphins would have to give up a player or another pick or two to justify the trade for the other team.

Recently, Jimmy Johnson (among others now) made a draft value chart which assigns specific "points" to every pick in the draft. To make trades equal, this chart is used as a guideline to ensure both teams get equal value. Say the 1st pick is worth 3000 points and the 9th pick is worth 1500. You would need to add picks worth 1500 points to equal the value of the 1st pick.

Hola Mien frien!! I think you mean just plain old "trading down". That means that Miami would give up thier 9th spot in the draft and move down to a lower spot while at the same time, picking up an additional spot in the draft that they did not have before.

How are those Berlin Thunder going to be this year?

The whole draft point thing is a smoke screen build by jimmy johnson to look good in a trade. Its does are include player skill ,skill position, team need, financial commitment and most hard to to do player position compariosn on a weighted scale. In term it takes into consideration nothing which is important but people see too much into this.Hence , if you consider the above the whole equation goes skewed as hell.

Also, inspite alll the trading scenario`s a teams actually wants to trade with you to make this happen.Alot of teams including the patriots do not like high 1st rounders as the value is low .

okay, so what the main motivation behind is that you get another pick, because your problems may lie more in the depth of less cherished positions than in having to pick a total top guy... got it, thanks! :cooldude:

berlin thunder have won their first game with 15:3 (not a field goal-only-game, though - fgs of or more than 50 yards are worth 4 points in nfl europa), but of course it was not being shown on tv. i will attend all their games in berlin's olympic stadium, though, and will occasionally report on them in the local press (citymag stadtkind, http://www.magazin-stadtkind.de ) - from the luxury press box! :o) :cooldude:
