I have never considered the possibility of Ginn being traded until just recently.

Does anybody know what kind of cap hit would be incurred if he was traded before the season starts??

What teams might be interested??

What kind of compensation do you think would be reasonable?

One of the things that spurred my thoughts on this was the excellent performance of Anthony Armstrong in mini camp. I remember him looking pretty good in camp last year as well.

What if Armstrong can bring the same production as Ginn for a fraction of the cost?

Does the drafting of Turner and Hartline and the acquisition of Brennan Marion make this even more of a possibility?

I don't like the idea of losing Ginn, I like his game, but does trading him make sense for the team?

makes sense if you think he's performed about as good as he will. it's about upside and whether the FO still thinks he's got some, especially after we have a bigger armed QB or have tried to incorporate him into more wildcat plays.

As for compensation, I think we could get a 3rd, maybe second for him.

what did he do to make you consider this trade now?
Psquad guys like armstrong, who couldn't even make the roster, cannot supplement ginn. I know the combos of Hartline/Cama and Bess/Turner would be complimentary as 1's and 2's. But Ginn is our only real downfield threat, Armstrong is not ready to be that on this team.

I'd trade Ginn for a first rounder, just so we can improve this team, but there is no need to. He's developing nicely and will be great with Henne for years to come.

Ginn was a starter on this team and Armstrong was on the PS and camp fodder for a reason, Hartline never even had a good college career and was already behind Ginn on a depth chart before. Turner could be a good WR IMO but is the exact opposite of what Ginn is which is a game breaker type of player where Turner is a big, possesion, redzone type of guy. Don't get pissed off because this is just my opinion but I think you guys are crazy if you think Ginn i going anywhere.

ginn has only played receiver for 4&1/2 years he was a corner when he went to ohio than they switched him to receiver.. lets give him his 3rd year in the nfl to show what he can do, hes finally learning how to beat the press off the line so corners have to give him space.. armstrong played good against the rookies.. when they couldnt touch him he has 4.2 speed but if vontae was allowed to jam him..he couldnt of ran around him i promise..

I like the idea, but as already stated, the coaching staff would have to be very, very confident in Armstrong can equal Ginn's production.

But as Lance Moore showed last year for the Saints, players can come off the pratice squad and have a very productive season.

But its a gamble. At that rate you probably would have been better off trading Ginn and a 2nd rounder for Boldin if the FO wanted to un-load Ginn.

Can not see it happening myself.

I don't see that he has much value ATM. He's sort of like Ricky in that he has more value to the team to keep than to trade. I believe the way the WR situation will shake out is;

Ginn/Bess/Turner/Cam/Hartline The exact order, I don't know. Lots will hinge on Cam's knee and it's recovery. I could see more value in trading Pennington at this point than Ginn. We are never going to get more value for Pennington than we will right now, IMO, and if Henne isn't ready to go after a season of second string and,a full off season of minicamps, then, he's never going to be ready, IMO.

A NFL roster holds 53 players. Just because we have other receivers doesn't mean we should trade Ginn. Also, Ginn's value as a deep threat has not yet been tapped and won't be until Henne takes snaps. Ginn has been productive and continues to improve and you want to trade him? That makes little sense.

Look at the players left by the previous regime. If Ginn did not have talent or value he would have been dealt already. Patience please, patience.

I'm not against trading anyone with the exception of Jake, providing the price is right. A month ago I was advocating putting Pennington up for grabs since his value to us would never be higher and essentially he's a lame duck. Given that, I'd not be adverse to trading Ginn, but unlike Pennington, with him we're not dealing from a position of strength. Beyond that, until we have a QB who can utilize his strengths, we really don't know what we have with him as a homerun hitter and as a diversion benefitting our other receivers. However, if the price is right, like a 1st, or a 2nd along with a valuable player package, then why not.

You asked what kind of cap hit we would get if we traded Ginn. The answer is none. You only get a cap hit when you cut a player. At that time the signing bonus gets accelerated. When you trade a player, his contact goes on the other teams books.

I got this table from another Dolphins fan website/blogsite, which I'll leave nameless. The guy who created the post raised many great debatable points based on all of the measurables listed below (basically size and speed only) and explained the 3 different WR positions (Splint end, Flanker, and Slot Receiver) in detail.

Bottom line for me is that no matter what position and no matter what the guy's measurables are, it all comes down to how good of a FOOTBALL PLAYER the guy is. There are just way too many variables to predict NFL success. IMO, though, Ginn started showing that he is a player and not just a bunch of numbers.

Here is my predicted depth chart at WR:

Split End - Turner, London
Flanker - Ginn
Slot - Bess, Camarillo, Hartline
Practice Squad - Lowber, Marion

Cut the rest, including Wilford ASAP.

Dang, hadn't realized how similar Turner and Wilford are.

Cam and Bess are shining examples of why speed isn't everything.

Interesting how Marion is really a Ginn clone.

What's Lowber's rap, bad hands? bad routes? He has speed AND size.

What is wrong with Lowber he has Speed, Size, and Jumps...He was a high jump champion.

many dolphins fans have been on Ginn's back even before he got started. there wasn't a legitimate reason then & there still isn't.

I think trading Ginn is realistic because it doesn't seem like we are interested in him as a kick returner or punt retuner so basically all he is is a speedy deep threat and I think a servicable replacement could be found rather easily for that and quite possibly with better hands and more physical style. If we could get a solid player at another position or a decent draft pick Iwould support the move.
