I personally dont think trading our first pick to dallas for their 22 and 28 picks would make any sense, unless they give us marion barber then i would do it, but the way i see it is we have the 1st overall pick plus the 33rd pick plus another pick in the 2nd round, the 33rd pick is still pretty much the first round i would rather draft c.long, j.long, or gholston and then select a solid player with the 33rd pic trust there will still be plenty of good players left with that pic that can come in right away and help, i dont think it would be smart to pass up on one of those top impact players, unless we get two first rounders and barber and then trade one of the 1st round pics to atlanta for hall but thats the only way i would do it, keep the 1st pic and select a good player with the 33rd its pretty much a 1st round pic

we actually have the 32nd pick, not the 33 and we're not gonna trade our top pick to Dallas just for the 22 and 28...they'd have to give us a whole lot more

Ozzy rules!!

i would like to take J.Long but i think that we are going to trade JT and our draft pick for something..just a thought

idk, part of me wants to trade the pick because we need to convert that into more picks, another part of me wants to keep it and take the pick of the litter after suffering so much this season.

I think everyone kinda feels this way when you think about it. Yes, if you pick a guy #1 supposedly you are getting the best talent no matter what except for that 1% of mistakes that have happened (in wikipedia please see Leaf and Couch). However if we want the team to fill more holes via draft then trading down makes complete sense and are paying less for two players than you would be than the first overall.

The second part of this is we have to find a team to bait (Atlanta, Oakland, Dallas, possible St. Louis). All of these teams need something really bad or in Dallas' case, need that final piece to make the SB. I could see two scenarios, if we do draft Chris Long #1 overall, chances are you will see JT traded the same day for a second rounder or a package deal. If we trade down, there will be a better chance of keeping JT this year and say drafting Ghoulston from Ohio St. to learn from JT before getting rid of him before the trade deadline in week 6.

This way of trading down and getting Ghoulston and trading JT in season, we still keep cap space open to add depth to a rebuilding team. :D

All these trade-down scenarios are great to wonder about, but first, there has to be a partner. Right now, there just aren't any partners. The first pick in the draft has become more of a burden than a blessing because of the cost associated with it and the bust factor. Dallas is a very unlikely partner...while JJ is willing to spend the money and they have some ammo to use for a trade, is there really someone who is head and shoulders above the rest that other teams covet as well...sure there's RunMcF, but is he that much better than some of the other backs coming out, and they still have Barber, so where's the enticement there ?? Atlanta needs a QB, but they also have the #35 pick, so there will be a good QB available to them, even if Baltimore snags Ryan and Ryan is not a sure-fire, can't miss pick. KC has needs everywhere, particularly the OL and DL and they can stay where they are and be sitting pretty to get someone they covet. The bottom line is that there has to be two parts to a trade, and the draft doesn't hold any particular stud, sure-fire, can't miss prospect at any position and teams aren't going to be willing to give up the draft picks/players and still pay the cost of the #1 overall that it'll cost them...It's the same situation we were at in 2004. Brown was the best move we could have made then, because there just wasn't anyone willing to move up to our spot...

Personally hope we dont trade down. Would love to see Chris Long in a Fins uniform next season.

Parcels probably wants to trade down but the #1 pick is ridiculously expensive, both in terms of picks and financially. Finding a parter would not be easy.

I really dont understand the whole deal on the value of number 1...if we could get 2 firsts and get 2 quality players who cares. We dont want to be at 1 and we dont wanna pay that kind of cheese. Unless payton manning was at 1 or a for sure thing why stay. No one at the top of the draft is eye popping ( to us anyway ) . wouldnt you have a great defender and a Linemen in the first round?? 4 PICKS IN THE FIRST 2 ROUNDS means a lot to a 1-15 team, I would love the idea of having (pretty much) 3 picks in the first round just think about, we could get just about anyone we wanted on our boards and the draft is deep with gems threwout first and second round . If we could just get 2 quality Olinemen in round 1 then 2 with those picks just look at how great our line can be which would improve a poor offense immediatly without adding much more.

I have said it before and I will say it again... This regime is in a can't miss situation. IF (and that is a HUGE 'if') we can trade down we would be in a great spot to benefit from a deep draft on both sides of the line... This also just so happens to be Parcell's favorite place to build from... But if we stay, we are golden as well since both Long's are the closest things to 'can't miss' in this year's class and would anchor the Defensive or Offensive front for years to come. Let the FO worry about the money, we have it, lets spend it...

I think a trade is a real possibility. Atlanta needs Matt Ryan. The Ravens could use him to. Everyone knows Miami will draft another QB somewhere. Before anyone says Miami won't draft a QB first b/c of the John Beck pick last year, keep this in mind. Miami has a new regime. They owe nothing to Beck. BP isn't worried about last years draft. If drafting a QB first is best for the Fins, then thats what he will do. As the draft draws closer I think either Atlanta or the Ravens will get antsy and make a move.

It's all based on the draft value chart, some teams follow it like the bible and other use it as a reference. When you trade down, you want to make sure you get equal value for your pick, it's no different than trading a player, you want to make sure that you get equal value. The #1 pick holds a greater value IMO than what the DVC indicates because you are guaranteed to get the player that you want, which is the best player in the draft. If you trade out of the #1 spot, you damn well better make sure that you are getting at least equal value in return. JMO though

I'm starting to believe that the Falcons are going to go defense with their first pick. I've said it for about a week or so, but I wouldn't look at Ryan to Atlanta as a lock just yet. ;)

Parcells new what he was getting himself into when he took this job, he knew who was here and he willingly inherited this roster and everything that came with it, last years draft included. The assets are still the same, the only thing that changed is who is running the team.

With that said, Ireland indicated that the Phins have a high opinion of Beck and that was echoed by Parcells and Wolf. I think there is a very good possibility that we are going into the season with Beck and McCown.

no i know what ya mean its just that i would rather not pay the price for that spot unless he was worth it and imo no one is worth that number 1 pick money available. i would rather get 2 potential great players than 1 very overpayed seatwarmer. i just think that that first pick price to trade is way overrated. if it was me i would jump all over 2 first rounders for ours.
